Latest Soccer News, Real Salt Lake falls to Bk Haken 1-2

Posted by Joel Shirey On February - 28 - 2009

In the latest soccer news, Real Salt Lake finally met their match in Tampa, Florida as they faced BK Haken and lost 1-2. Real Salt Lake controlled the first half with ease as Beckerman covered the whole the field incerpting passes. In the 14th minute, Movsisyan sprinted passed his defender on a lobbed pass while the keeper came out challenge the play. Movsisyan's speed tricked the goalkeeper as he reached the ball earlier sending a chipped strike into the goal.

The RSL athleticism and creativity all night as BK Haken were exploited for being slow and unimaginative. After the mass substitutions on both sides, BK Haken started to play better and assert their style on to the game. In the last ten minutes, the Swedish side began to scrap for balls and scored two goals to secure the victories. This game had its share of injuries and collisions but fortunately no one was severely injured.

I will update you later on the rest of the details. Enjoy your Saturday of rest and relaxation.

Latest Soccer News: FulhAmerica - Arsenal vs Fulham review

Posted by Joel Shirey On February - 27 - 2009

In the latest soccer news: In this FulhAmerica segment I have comprised two interesting reviews of the games. Graham Lister of goal.com suggests that Arsenal will win 2-0.  The official Fulham FC Website interviews Brede Hangeland regarding the possiblity of winning both games against Arsenal which has never happened before.

If you are a hard-core Fulham fan, just a FulhAmerica admirer or watching how Clint Dempsey performs, the likelihood that Fulham will win the game is unlikely. In the last five away games, the Cottagers have allowed six goals and a -4 goal differential. However, Arsenal might suffer from a difficult Champions league game which could cause them to have a let down against the Whites. On the other hand, Fulham FC is enjoying success as they advance to the next round of FA Cup action ready to face Manchester United. Fulham has struggled away form Craven cottage, but an away goal is a real possibility because Arsenal is inconsistent on set-piece defense and that is where Fulham has excelled.

Look for Arsenal to win the game 2-1, but this London fixture will not be easy as Arsenal's offensive opportunities will be limited by Fulham's top five defense.

Latest Soccer News: Soccer Man-Crush - Youri Djorkaeff

Posted by Joel Shirey On February - 27 - 2009

In the latest soccer news: In this segment of Soccer Man-Crush, Youri Djorkaef was my next target for Soccer Man-Crush. However, the French International has changed my mind has he started another career, rapper and hip-hop extraordinaire. It is not enough that this skillful player can hypnotize his opponents with his fantastic moves and vision. He is taking the Joaquin Phoenix to rap illustrating that he should not quit his day job.

If I had  Youri Djorkaef's soccer skill, I would appear in all the rap and reggaeton videos in the background and in VIP sipping bubbly, sporting some bling and wrapping my arms around two voluptuous honeys. I would liken his style and beats on the same level as Will Smith or Vanilla Ice mediocre in nature.

This Soccer Video feature the great Youri Djorkaef rapping in leather pants. Huhh!!!!

Will Smith must be Djorkaeff's mentor in this soccer video.

This interview proclaims Joaquin's Phoenix's desire to be a rapper and his rap.

If I had the celebrity status that Youri Djorkaeff has, you might see me in videos such as Lil Wayne Lolipop chilling in the huge limo, De La Ghetto and Arcangel working it in Puerto Rico, or jamming with Bloc Party just to name a few. Diversification would be the key as I would feature  in various rap, hip-hop, regaetton, and Rock videos.

These are the videos that I would be featured in but I would not be rapping. LOL!!!

Youri Djorkaeff will have to earn our trust and respect with some magnificent goals and moves. If he starts to produce and leaves his other career (hobby), Soccer Addict News will consider bringing him back into the fold to feature him on the Next Soccer Man-Crush Edition. Meanwhile, you are on probation monsieur!!!

What do you think of his video? What video would you like to be featured in? Would you wear a lot of bling or would you go with the subtle approach? Who would you like to see on the next Edition of Soccer Man-Crush? We want to know.

In the latest soccer news, a report from Soccer by Ives suggests that U-20 US international, Vincenzo Bernardo, is still uncertain on which national team he will represent, USA or Italy. ESPN's soccernet segment reports a different perspective  when Bernardo stated that "At the moment I feel the U.S. has shown me more trust as a player, and I just feel real comfortable wearing the red, white and blue.''

He added that "I want to win something big for the U.S. because we haven't won anything. Even at the U-20 level we have a lot of talent, and I think we have the possibility of winning something very important, a World Cup or whatever."  Unfortunately for Bernardo, his exclusion from the U-20 roster  for the CONCACAF Qualifiers in Tobago has fueled speculation that his omission stems from disclipinary action in a previous U-20 camp.

Thomas Rongen is the crucificial lamb on blogs across the USA for publicly criticizing Neven Subotic and excluding him from the U-20 roster which lacked solid central defenders for the U-20 World Cup in Canada. Subotic's departure to the Serbian National team has soured US' fans opinions of Rongen and his choice of words for his players.

Bernardo's Website  features various photos in his US National team uniform. He has started to offer summer soccer camps in his home state of New Jersey. It is difficult to say in which direction he will go. It appears that he could be upset by his exclusion or could be because of his recent knee and leg injury that he recently suffered. What ever the case may be. Soccer Addict News will keep you updated on his status.

Are these conflicting reports just away to strong hold the USSF? Or is he just keeping his options? Do you think the disclipinary action had something to do with his exclusion?  Let us know what you think!!!!

In the latest soccer news, the Puerto Rico Islanders come from behind against the mighty Hondurian Marathon from a deficit of 0-1 to win 2-1. Palacios assumed the lead for Marathon as miscommunication allowed the ball to sneak into the net from a Marathon set-piece.

In the second half, it appeared that Marathon would hold on to their lead despite the Islanders excellent offensive charge. However, in the 73rd minute Nicholas Adderly received a perfect soft lobbing pass to the crown of his head which he flicked on goal tying the game 1-1.  The Islanders turned up the offensive and defensive pressure with a high work rate. Coach Colin Clarke made an excellent tactical substitution bringing in Trinidad and Tobago native, Kendall Jagdeosingh. Jagdeosingh ran on to a through ball in the left corner of the field, cut towards the post, turned right for a better angle, and rifled a shot which was slightly deflected  into the goal.

This soccer video features goals and highlights from the PR Islanders vs Marathon game.

The Puerto Rico Islanders appeared to lack the inspiration but flipped the switch and gave themselves a one goal lead heading into their away leg in Honduras. Marathon has been one of the best teams in the tournament this season and will be a fierce opponent at home.

What do you think of the Islander's Victory? What is your opinion of USL?  Could some of the top USL sides compete with MLS over the stretch of the season? Will Montreal and Puerto Rico advance? Let us know.
