In the Latest Soccer News: It would be a good idea to review the Joelstradamus' picks for the first leg this week during Champions League play. Aspiring to attain a prophetic or book-makers level, it was important that Joelstradamus got off on the right foot, which he did, tallying a 3-1 record. His results and scores were perfect for the Barcelona/Lyon 1-1 and FC Porto/Athletic Madrid (draw) matches. Arsenal did defeat AS Roma 1-0, but he predicted a 3-1. His failure for the game was the Chelsea and Inter Milan match.

On Tuesday's games, Joelstradamus struck out on a grand scale with the Manchester United and Inter Milan match picking Inter 2-0 but resulted in a 0-0 draw in Milan. Manchester United is virtually impossible to beat at home and will have Central defender Vidic at his disposal at Old TraffordInter Milan needs to pull a rabbit out of their hat as they face Man U and down a goal in aggregate. Thanks, redoranje for the correction. Inter Milan will face a tough Manchester United at Old Trafford  and must provide a more dynamic attack as Man United will maintain their steady organization.

With a good start to predictions, Nostradamus has secured three possible correct series predictions as three of the teams still have a chance to win in the series. Barcelona plays at home against Lyon, and Arsenal boast a one goal lead as they travel to Rome. FC Porto is heading home to play Athletic Madrid and should have the advantage to advance.

In Wednesday's match-ups, Joelstradamus envisioned an upset of major proportions such as Bayern Munich's punking of Sporting Lisbon 5-0. Predicting that Bayern would win the game due to their aerial ability and height, Joelstradamus was perplexed by the incredible Bayern display as they thrashed Lisbon. Bayern Munich was struggling and had bored spectators to sleep with their predictable offense. Bayern has stepped up big all season in European competition and did not disappoint. Joelstradamus selected the correct result just the wrong score line.

The Chelsea and Juventus prediction of 1-1 was a disappointment as Chelsea won at Stanford Bridge 1-0. Chelsea showed more in the game utilizing their pace and fitness to their advantage. Juventus began to improve in the second half but was unable to equalize. Although Joelstradamus had predicted that Liverpool would win the series, his wise words of "coaching and discipline will prevail in the end" culminated in the first series game as Liverpool won 1-0 against Real Madrid at home. Liverpool heads home with a goal advantage. They will utilize their counter attack and 4-5-1 formation to perfection as they advance to the next round.

Joelstradamus' intuition failed as he preferred Panathinaikos 2-1 against Villareal at home. The result ended in a 1-1 draw and still appears favorable to Panathinaikos to advance as originally predicted just in a reverse outcome.  Villareal concedes goals like Paris Hilton goes through boyfriends. Advantage Panathinaikos!!!

Tuesday's Results and Predictions February 24th

  • Manchester United at Inter Milan 1-0  Prediction 0-2.
  • Barcelona at Lyon                       1-1  Prediction 1-1
  • AS Roma at Arsenal                          0-1  Prediction 1-3
  • FC Porto at Atletico Madrid          2-2  Prediction 2-2

Wednesday's Results and Predictions February 25th

  • Juventus at Chelsea                    0-1     Prediction 1-1
  • Liverpool at Real Madrid              1-0     Prediction 1-1
  • Bayern Munich at Sporting Lisbon 5-0     Prediction 2-1
  • Panathinaikos at Villarreal            2-2    Prediction  2-1

Joelstradamus Record 5w-3L and two perfect predictions.

What did you think of the matches? Who will advance to the next round? What was the big surprise? Will Bayern carry over their performance to the Bundesliga? Share your thoughts.

In the latest soccer news, the USSF released their newest edition of Studio 90 video interview with Thomas Rongen and Wilmer Cabrera. His confidence in the squad is expressed in the soccer video and aspires to reach the finals and win the tourney.

This soccer video features Studio 90 February 25th.

Wilmer Cabrera, U-17 Residency Program coach, elaborated on their recent trip to Spain. His players learned  and experienced  a great deal playing high level squads such as the U-17 Spanish National Team and Real Madrid Reserves U-18. Cabrera compared the trips to the different styles of Spain, Argentina and Ecuador which have aided in the development of the players.  He mentioned his players showed a tremendous amount of personality and composure playing against top-tier talent finishing with a 1-1-1 record.  In addition, he was very impressed with Real Madrid's training facilities stating "that Real Madrid has the nicest facilities in the world."

Later in the week, I will report on the U-17 MNT games in Spain.

Who are your favorite players for the u-20 team? Will they earn first place in the tourney? Will the U-20 play better than they did in Canada? Let us know your thoughts.

In the latest soccer news, Montreal Impact silenced  Mexico's Santos Laguna 2-0 in front of a noisy and record-setting crowd of 55,571. Although Santos Laguna were not subjected to playing in the 19' temperature, however,  the Mexican side had to battle other adverse conditions such as the record-setting crowd and the field turf which did not allow for a fluid offensive-passing game.

Forward Eduardo Sebrango, the man-of-the-match, propelled Montreal to a two-goal lead scoring both goals. In the first half, Eduardo Sebrango struck the ball to the far left post in the 8th minute. He extended their lead in the second half on a header which was challenged by Mexican keeper Oswaldo Sanchez. Playing in Cancun will not be easy under hostile conditions, but, Montreal has the luxory of a two-goal lead, and if they are able to play compact and score a goal in Cancun, the Impact should advance to the next round.

This Soccer video features the Montreal Impact vs Santos Laguna highlights. Enjoy!!

What do you think of their excellent play? Will we see a different Santos team? Are you glad to see Sanchez give up two goals? Who is your favorite player for the Montreal Impact? IS USL impressing you more now that they have the success in this tournament? Share your thoughts. We Want to know.

In the latest soccer news, Raul Gonzalez, Real Madrid striker and record-leading goal scorer, hinted at his interest in playing in the United States. His plan is to play two more seasons before retiring from Real Madrid. Although Raul has only played for Real Madrid, he is open to playing in the States. He spoke to the Daily Marca about his retirement saying "It's a difficult situation because in reality you always want to go when you're at the top. But when you're playing well then you start asking yourself, 'Do I really want to go?....In this moment, I've marked the date as 2011."

Raul mentioned that he would like to travel and would even consider a David Beckham-esque finale playing a season in Major League Soccer (without the drama and speculation, of course). If his time-line is correct, Raul's age would be between 34 to 35 years old. His presence would be great and would give MLS a boost in exposure and notoriety. My only concern would be the physical play and the speed that is involved which could result in an injury. The economic impact through shirt sales and increased exposure would inject another stimulus to Major League Soccer that is surving during difficult economic times.

What do you think of his thoughts? What team would he represent? Do you think that he would go to Real Salt Lake or a bigger City. What are your thoughts? We want to know.

In the latest soccer news: If you are a Donovan hater, today was a good day as Landon was not on the bench for the UEFA Champions league match against Sporting Lisbon in which Bayern won 5-0. It's probable that Landon Donovan will return to the LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer until at least the summer. In 2009, Donovan will have a full plate as he will be playing for the Galaxy, the USMNT for the Confederations Cup, and the World Cup qualifiers.

This soccer video features Bayern Munich vs Sporting Lisbon.

Although many US fans would have enjoyed to have Donovan in Bayern Munich which seemed like a perfect fit, the positives could outplay the negatives. LD should play for a better LA Galaxy side  this season and has a multitude of  international games to display his ability. If he can play well at the Confederations Cup against the likes of Brazil, Egypt, and Italy, Donovan could draw the attention and recognition to make the European move. It seems that Landon would do better in leagues from Spain, Portugal, Holland, or Italy which stress the technical aspect of the game and tend to be less physical than say England, Germany, or Scotland.

Would you have liked Donovan to stay? Do you think that he should have played in the midfield on the wing a la Ribery? If given an adequate opportunity and a better economy would Donovan have stayed? Are the Landon Donovan Haters rejoicing today? What are your thoughts? Let Us know.
