Boasting great size at 5'5, excellent speed, great technical ability, and a nose for goal Mia Hamm illustrates what a professional soccer athlete should be. Her performance for the USMNT speaks volumes tallying 275 appearances with 158 goals, a career spanning from 1987-2004.  In 1991, Mia Hamm was the youngest American to win the World Cup at the age of 19. In 1999, the USWNT went on to win the World cup proving that the Mia Hamm Soccer Jerseys is one of the most prized in USA history.

While attending North Carolina and playing collegiate soccer Mia Hamm won the national championship four years consecutively a feat that is and would be difficult to match. Besides experiencing a fantastic collegiate and Fifa international career, she won gold at the 1996 (Atlanta) and 2004 (Athens Greece) Olympics and won silver at the 2000 Olympics in Syndey, Australia. Owning an authentic Mia Hamm Soccer Jerseys ranging from any of her Olympic, International, and collegiate accomplishments would be a great honor.

After breaking the international goals record of 158, Mia Hamm focussed on mother hood and married Major League Baseball star Nomar Garciaparra in 2003.  She stated  "As Pete said, sometimes you just know the time is the right time," Hamm said. "I've enjoyed every minute and I've learned a lot, but it's time to take the next step in my life." She also mentioned "I might want to have children, and I want to reconnect with my family, which was always there for me," she said. "I want to be the best wife I can be."

In March 2004, Hamm and former U.S. teammate Michelle Akers were the only two women, and the only two Americans, named to the FIFA 100, a list of the 125 greatest living soccer players selected by Pelé and commissioned by FIFA for that organization's 100th anniversary.

She is a great role model for the youth. Now focused on her family and foundation, Mia Hamm has  dedicated  herself to help with bone marrow research and to help women's sports programs progress. She was inspired to create her foundation by her adoptive brother and original athletic inspiration, Garrett. She had a friendly game the next day and all the members of her team wore a black armband in memory of her brother. The Mia Hamm Soccer Jerseys will go down as the most prestigous in Women's Soccer.

In her foundation website, the mission statement states that " The Mia Hamm Foundation is a reflection of my life experiences. I created this foundation to benefit important issues that have directly affected me throughout my life. The foundation is focused on providing support for two important causes: raising funds and awareness for families needing marrow or cord blood transplants and continuing the growth in opportunities for young women in sports."

"The Mia Foundation further states that "Young Women in Sports - Needless to say, I would not have had the life experiences to date without other pioneers who worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for women in sport. Although I am encouraged by the growth of opportunities for girls, I am committed to continue the progress made in the last decade. It is my goal to help further the development of programs and initiatives for young women in sports."
With these issues in mind the mission of the Mia Hamm Foundation is as follows:
.

"The Mia Hamm Foundation is a non-profit, national organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for families in need of a marrow or cord blood transplant and the development of more opportunities for young women to participate in sport."

Latest Soccer News: Joelstradamus offers MLS Predictions Week 11

Posted by Joel Shirey On May - 29 - 2009

In the latest soccer news: After tallying a 3 out 7 correct predictions last week, Joelstradamus is determined to earn a better percentage this week. As ties continue to headline MLS circuits as a new theme, perhaps it would be a good idea to allow soft penalty calls to dominate the end of games in order to break the trend of ties that has been plagueing the league (Saying sorry in advance at the expense of Chivas USA fan).

Two interesting developments take place this weekend when Dwayne DeRosario travels to Robertson Stadium to face the surging Houston Dynamo. Will the homecoming be a welcoming one or will the Dynamo defense stifle the potent TFC offense?  Sigi Schmid and the Sounders play host to the Columbus Crew, a 2008 team that he guided victorious to the MLS Cup. It will be interesting to see the tactics involved between coaches Schmid and Warzycha who know each other very well after spending several years together.

Let's hope that this week's MLS match ups will provide the energy witnessed on Thursday where Chivas USA and Chicago Fire battled it out for MLS bragging rights. Let’s see how these teams will fair in Week 11 of  Joelstradamus Major League Soccer predictions.

Saturday

DC United @ New England Revolution -7:30 P.M.: DC United struggled to score a goal against the lifeless road-weary RSL. More volatile than the stock market and oil prices in 2007-08, DC United aspires to kick the Revs while they are down. Yes, the Revs have been down on their luck, and deploying star central Midfielder Shalrie Joseph at forward won't help matters. New England will play a compact and conservative game limiting DC United's possession and build up. Could Twellman's return inspire the team to win? It appears very unlikely. The central pairing of Pat Phelan and Jeff Larentowitcz will give the DC United midfield all it can handle. DC United draws 1-1 with the Revs.

.

Colorado Rapids @ New York Red Bulls - 7:30 pm: Look for the NYRB to have a break out game since they are playing at home and will start a gruelling away stretch playing 7 out of 9 games on the road. Albert Celades and Seth Stammler have solidified the central midfield allowing for stronger play. NYRB's wing play and its service has been inconsistent for most of the season. The famished-for-service forward pairing of Mac Kandji and Juan Pablo Angel have almost caused collaps from starvation. The strikers have been begging for nourishment in the form of service in order to score goals. If the poor service continues to exist, the NYRB could be on the outside looking in at a potential playoff opportunity, and several players could be  waiting in the USL soup line for 2010 season. The NYRB will be motivated for this game and will continue their scoring ways at home.

After squandering a 2-1 lead against the Sounders at home, the Colorado Rapids could fall further behind in the Western Conference standings. Terry Cooke will return on the right wing, but the #10 position occupied by Maloud Ballouchy has been less than impressive. If the Rapids forge their stamp on the game, they will utilize their flanks providing service to the dangerous tandem of Casey and Cummings. Although the Rapids have played compact and organized most of the season, the frustration mounts when the Rapids attack is detained by the Red Bull central midfield. Mac Khandji and Juan Pablo Angel experience a break out game. NYRB win 3-1.

.

Toronto FC @ Houston Dynamo - 8:30 pm: Dwayne DeRosario will make his triumphant return to Robertson stadium but this time wearing red. It will be interesting to see how TFC's offense attempts to break down the stingy Dynamo defense. With the Houston Dynamo experiencing a recent euphoric offensive display and improving defense, it is difficult to imagine TFC earning even a point. Houston will frustrate TFC with their pesky defense and humid home conditions. De Ro will have to wait another year as the Houston Dynamo win 2-1.

.

Real Salt Lake @ San Jose Quakes - 10:30 pm: Despite drawing away against DC United, RSL have proven to be one of the worst on the road in MLS in 2009 (0-4-1). Playing the worst team in MLS, the San Jose Quakes, might help boost their battered-away confidence. In their 2009 away games, RSL has only managed one goal, and that was in in US Open Cup play against the Sounders who won 4-1. So, don't expect to a goal fest this weekend.

Even if RSL is playing the worst team in MLS, San Jose showed promise on Wednesday in the first half against the Columbus Crew, but a Guillermo Barros Schelotto second half goal ruined their gutsy performance. Although the Quakes lost the game and played fairly well, the one bright spot on the team is Ryan Johnson who has 5 out of the team's 10 goals. It is very possible that this game could be both high and low scoring, but the game  will ultimately end in a 1-1 draw.

.

Columbus Crew @ Seattle Sounders - 10:30 pm: This game basically boils down to who will be playing in the central midfield. Decimated with several injuries over the past several weeks, the Seattle Sounders will receive encouraging news that Freddie Ljunberg and Brad Evans will return to the starting lineup. The unfortunate news focuses on the exclusion of Osvaldo Alonso, the work horse of the Sounders midfield.

The Crew received a devastating blow when Brian Carrol separated his shoulder against the Quakes. His exclusion from the lineup will have a dramatic effect on the team's balance and defensive bite. His quiet presence and control in the central midfield instills confidence for the other attacking players to advance forward. With a rowdy Sounders crowd and without his presence, the Crew will be vulnerable at the back. The Sounders win 3-2 in an open, attacking and explosive game.

Kansas City Wizards @ Los Angeles Galaxy - 10:30 pm: When KC went to Rio Tinto Stadium Stadium pulling a 2-0 upset and moving the ball in such a fluid manner, the Wizards began to inspire hope in a season that looked at best .500. Playing on a big field will definitely facilitate their offensive fluidity and allow them to play an up-tempo game. Missing Josh Wolff and Santiago Hirsig will hurt their offensive activity, but playing the LA Galaxy does not necessarily strike fear into most opponents. Coach Onalfo must find the right replacement; A roster that boasts numerous options to fill the void.

The Galaxy, suffering from draw after draw, was unable to put the nail in the coffin as they faced the impotent Hoops resulting in a 1-1 outcome. Los Galacticos will lose the midfield battle in this match up as Arnaud and Jewsburry silence the likes of Kovalenko and Tudela. The Galaxy are in for some rough weeks ahead now that Landon Donovan heads to World Cup qualifiers and then the Confederations Cup. The Wizards win 2-1.

.

FC Dallas @ Chicago Fire Sunday 3pm: Is it possible to believe that the Chicago Fire will experience a let down against FC Dallas still searching for the offensive magic that caused fear in opponents in 2008. Although FC Dallas has pulled recent upsets against the Chicago Fire, don't look for any revelations this game. FC Dallas plays as defensive oriented as the Phoenix Suns circa 2004-07.  Fatigued from an inspired come-from-behind victory, the Fire possess a myriad of offensive weapons. Justin Mapp and Patrick Nyarko looked dangerous in the second half providing dangerous runs in the offensive final third.

FC Dallas continues to sink deeper and deeper heading to the MLS playoff-less abyss. Chicago Fire provides too many weapons winning easily 2-1.

In the latest soccer news: Appearing to have control of the game and on their way to another 3 points, Chivas USA suffered an agonizing finale to the game as they conceded a late game goal to Patrick Nyarko and suffered from a poor penalty call late in stoppage time. The errant call sums up the majority of the refereeing taking place this season. Although I agree that McBride was pushed a little bit by Mariano Trujillo, the action did not warrant a call especially since the ball was played way over his head. That call cost Chivas USA a point and reflects poorly on MLS.

This Soccer video features highlights and coaches reactions.

It is understandable that McBride persuaded the referee to make the call, and this behaviour is commonplace in the game. However, if Major League Soccer wants to grow the sports stateside by converting new fans, they must also realize that many regard that type of behaviour unsportmans like. Many critics suggest that faking fouls and injuries cheapens the game.

The USA favors sports that respect sportsmanship and shuns winning a game at all costs when it includes cutting corners or doing so in a poor manner. Performance on the field dictates everything in the fans eyes. Only the sport can grow if MLS addresses these issues. The referee ruined a good ending to the game.

Should Chivas USA have won the game? Was the last minute call errant? Share your thoughts.

Latest Soccer News: Major League Soccer Power Rankings Week 10

Posted by Joel Shirey On May - 28 - 2009

In the latest soccer news: Chivas USA remains number one for this week but could fall out of the top spot as they face the Chicago Fire on Thursday. The Houston Dynamo impressed with a win against the anemic San Jose Earthquakes.  Conor Casey makes his case for future inclusions for the USMNT scoring his sixth goal against the impenatrable Casey Keller. Without further Adu, Soccer Addict News presents MLS Power Rankings Week 10. Enjoy!!!!

Comment

 1.  (1)  Chivas USA  7-1-3  Chivas USA dominated for the majority of the game conceding a Lopez free-kick goal. Lillingston made his case for his inclusion in the starting Xl. Will Chivas USA defeat the red-hot Fire?
2.  2  Chicago Fire  4-0-6  With a 1-0 win against the NYRB, the Fire could earn a first place ranking, but must defeat Chivas USA at home. Could the Fire lose their first game?
  3.  (3) Seattle Sounders   4-2-4  The Sounders escaped the unfriendly confines of Dick Sporting Goods Park. The altitude draining surroundings did not affect the Sounders the way that many had suspected. What has affected them are the MIA status of Ljungberg and Evans. Will Alonso's injury take a toll on the Sounders?
  4.   (8)  TFC  4-3-4  With TFC impressing on offense and maintaining a stable defensive presence, TFC appears one of the frontrunners in MLS. Guevarra, Dichio, and DeRo offer the stabilty to make a deep run. Watch out!
 5.     (4)  DC United  3-1-7  DC United struggle against a struggling RSL, a few wins could keep them in the top five for a while. If it weren't for slow starts from other teams, they would be rated lower. Can anyone say "We want more Pontius"?
 6.   (4)  Colorado Rapids  3-2-4  The Rapids should have finished off the oxygen-less Sounders. Conceding a late game goal to the Sounder will not move you up in the rankings. Although Casey performs at a high level, the Rapids still need a #10. Luis Figo has stated that he would be interested in playing in MLS. With Figo, Colorado Rapids would go from playoff poser to contender.
 7.  (6)  Houston Dynamo  4-2-3  How can you win your game and move down in the rankings? The Dynamo did defeat the SJ Quakes. Once their offense can prove offensive potency, the Dynamo will propel itself to a top four ranking. Will Dominic Oduro make an impact for the Dynamo? Ying and Yang will now be named Ching and Yang.
 8.  (7)  KC Wizards 4-4-3   The Wizards should be thankful for earning a point against Chivas USA who dominated for over 65 minutes of the game. Claudio Lopez's set piece goal demonstrated that he still has a good touch. What happened to the beautiful soccer that they played against RSL?
  9.   (11)  Columbus Crew  2-2-6  After defeating San Jose 2-1, are the Crew going to make a run for the playoffs? GBS has tallied a 3 game goal streak. The rest of his team needs to step up. Another loss means that their playoff hopes are dwindling.
 10.  9  Real Salt Lake  3-5-2  If it weren't for other horrible teams in the bottom half of the MLS, RSL would be close to the bottom. What happen to Yura Movsisyan? He looked really good in preseason and poised to experience a break-out year. It's time to start to do the wheeling-and-dealing.
 11. 12  New England Revolution  2-3-4  As the Revs plead for Twellman to make a triumphant return, the Revs must acquire another forward to stabilize their attack. Shalrie Joseph needs to move back to his midfield role. Playoffs don't appear to be an option this year.
12    13  LA Galaxy  1-1-7  The LA Galaxy offense could only muster one goal while playing a man up for over 60 minutes. What happened to Buddle? I am starting to miss Ruud Gulitt.
 13.  12  NY Red Bulls  2-6-3  Albert Celades, Seth Stammler, Kevin Goldthwaite, and Mac Kandji would illustrate the positives for NYRB. The negative will fill this box and then some. JPA is not playing well, and NY played better than the Fire but lost. I have officially declared my soccer man-crush on Mac Kandji. His play obligates me to tune in to watch his games.
 14.  14  FC Dallas  1-6-3  When will Coach Hyndman start to insert the younger players that are performing better than the veterans? Shea and Guarda looked impressive during their 1-1 draw. Does Saragos want to get his coach fired? The 3-5-2 is working well for the Hoops.
 15.   15  San Jose Earthquakes  1-6-2  If this team were in the English Premier league, they would draw comparisons to Derby who employed both Eddie Lewis and Benny Feilhaber. Thankfully for Quake Fans, relegation will not derail their season. The quakerade has been discontinued, and those who drank it might have lasting side effects.

Although the Dynamo should have moved up in the rankings, their recent offensive displays still warrant another week to evaluate their play. If the Dynamo can string together a few strong performances against solid teams, they could shoot up to a top four ranking. TFC catapoulted into the top four with a magnificent display of offense and solid defense. After the ninth position, all the remaining teams prove why they could be ranked in the bottom of the MLS barrel. San Jose should be relegated for their poor or lack of off-season acquisitions.

Who performed the best in week 10? Are you surprised by the Dynamo's inactivity in the Rankings? Will Conor Casey receive another call up to the National Team? Share your thoughts.

Latest Soccer News: Houston Dynamo punish San Jose 3-1

Posted by Joel Shirey On May - 28 - 2009

In the latest soccer news: The Houston Dynamo displayed their first dominating offensive performance of the season scoring three goals by Ching, Kamara, and Waibel. With over a week to rest and prepare for the Houston Dynamo, the San Jose Quakes felt good about their chances to face a Houston Dynamo side that has struggled after the departures of Nate Jacqua and Dwayne DeRosario.

This soccer video features highlights of the Dynamo vs Quakes.

Reminiscent of previous years, the Houston Dynamo started the 2009 campaign very slow but have gained momentum from strong defense and timely goals. Their offense has struggled while Stuart Holden has attempted to put his stamp on the game lacking the creative spirit that De Ro once provided previously. Although Brian Ching has lost his starting companion each of the past years: Nate Jacqua and Joseph Ngwyena, it appears that Ching and Kei Kamara found a good chemistry combining well and picking up the much needed offensive slack that has stunted their goal scoring.

If the Dynamo desire to make a run and advance far in the playoffs, it is important that Stuart Holden begins to create chances offensively complimenting their strong and organized defense. If his play continues as he has started the 2009 season, Coach Kinnear could make a change by inserting a veteran to the position or by looking at free agency to fill this important need.

Winger Corey Ashe has demonstrated his lightning speed on the wing and might tempt Coach Kinnear to slide his trustworthy wingers Brian Mullen or Brad Davis to assume the offensive responsibilities while inserting Ashe on the wing to add blazing speed. Ashe's immediate impact in the NYRB's game last week indicates that he has proved that he can be a difference maker for the Dynamo.

Expected by many that the Quakes would seize a top three spot in the Western Conference after a strong 2008 finish, the Quakes have regressed to below mediocrity standard experiencing a dismal level of play. Losing Ronnie O'Brien, Francisco Lima, and injured Darren Huckerby has proven to be a back-breaking experience. Underestimating Franciso Lima's presence in the central midfield cannot be understated as the central pairing of Ramiro Corrales and Bobby Convey were outmatched on Sunday. Remember that Lima picked up the majority of the slack in the midfield while Corrales returned from injury, despite having the oldest legs in the Starting Xl.

It is shame that a talented veteran such as Lima returned to the Italian Second Division because the organization felt that compensating one of their better players with incentives was not a sound move. Even if Huckerby returns, other MLS teams will punish the Quakes week after week as if they were a MLS punching bag. A result, other than three points, will be considered a failure especially for teams that want to make a playoff run. Bringing in the volatile Cornell Glen does not bode well for the Quakes and screams desperation. Is anyone still making a case for Bobby Convey at Left back for the USMNT? His experience, ability, and contract suggests that he should but must first prove it on the field. His 2009 performance has disappointed many in San Jose and USMNT Supporters.

What will San Jose do in the Second Half of the season? Will Stuart Holden begin to perform in creative fashion or will he be replaced or moved to another position? Share your thoughts.
