Soccer Goals: The Gold Cup roster was revealed on June 25th offering several surprising inclusions and omissions. With the majority of the roster filled with MLS hopefuls who desire the international stage and a spot in South Africa, the roster posed some questionable call-ups and omissions.

This soccer videos features the 2007 Gold Cup Finals and soccer goals. A taste of the Gold.

With the USA achieving a higher level of play after the Confederations Cup, it is certain that several players such as Sacha Kljestan, DaMarcus Beasley, Conor Casey, and Jonathan Bornstein could concede their status to players who perform well in the Gold Cup. Let's further review the Gold Cup roster and the implications heading into World Cup qualifying.

Here is the Gold Cup Roster:

GOALKEEPERS- Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Troy Perkins (Valarenga), Luis Robles (FC Kaiserslautern)

DEFENDERS- Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Jay Heaps (New England Revolution), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaellands), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)

MIDFIELDERS- Davy Arnaud (Kansas City Wizards), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Colin Clark (Colorado Rapids), Sam Cronin (Toronto FC), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Logan Pause (Chicago Fire), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)

FORWARDS- Freddy Adu (AS Monaco), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Santino Quaranta (D.C. United)

Omissions

Francisco "Paco" Torres (Pachuca): After being yanked out of the Costa Rican debacle at half time and not playing in the Confederations Cup, many US supporters will voice their frustration knowing that Torres would have experienced a potential break-out tournament. Playing the teeter-totter battle that is international soccer, Coach Bradley must have complied with  Pachuca' s interest to return the Gringo to preseason camp. Although his club situation is understandable, Torres could have vaulted his status and improved chemistry with coaches and colleagues with a solid Gold Cup performance.

Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo):Arguably the best in-form MLS center back was snubbed from the roster most likely due to Ching and Holden's inclusion potentially gutting the Dynamo for several weeks. His versatility, athleticism, and familiarity at center back has propelled him to the top of the list of future prospects.

Michael Orozco (San Luis):Plying his trade in Mexico's Primera Division and exeriencing the competition of the Copa Libertadores, the tenacious center back could have been evaluated at both left back and center back. Playing solid minutes in Mexico and excelling at the club level, the California native should have received an additional call-up.

Eddie Johnson (Fulham FC on Loan Cardiff City): Once upon a time, most US supporters clamored for his omission from the USMNT. But, his maturation at Cardiff City is a testament to his resilience. His Cardiff Manager stated that EJ has demonstrates a good work ethic in practice and deserved his chances.  After scoring several goals,  fan-inspired chants of USA USA USA emerged within the stadium and spread like California fire throught many US soccer blogs. Although EJ's game is void of the 1v1 penetration of a Fernando Torres or Thiery Henry, his speed, passing, and hold-up play are attributes that can expose international opponents. With the USA playing in a more efficient and attacking 4-4-2, the speedy EJ could excel with the US Mens National team once again. He boasts an international goal's per-game rate of .32 (12 goals, 37 appearances), a rate that exceeds Brian Ching, Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, and rivals Donovan rate of .37 (41 goals, 115 appearances).

Chris Pontius (DC United):climbed the MLS ladder quickly - his prefer method involved an elevator which has transcended him to contention of the MLS Rookie of the Year. From his superb combine performances to his four goals and three assist for DC United, the versatile, skilled and crafty midfielder plays like a veteran but offers the wheels of a rookie. In addition, the former Gaucho standout demonstrate a versatility able to slot in at the flanks, forward and the central play maker role.

Zak Whitbread and Eric Lichaj (Millwall/Aston Villa): Both players plye their trade in English Soccer and should have received an opportunity for a call-up. Eric Lichaj has progressed steadily and trained with the full national team before their friendly in Costa Rica and Honduras. Zac Whitbread has received Championship suitors, and rumors persist that lower-tier Premier Clubs express interest for his services.

Surprise Inclusions

Jimmy Conrad (KC Wizards): Gone are the days of speculation that Coach Bradley and the extroverted defender did not see eye-to-eye. The 2006 World Cup veteran will receive his last hooray. Can he push for a roster spot? Not likely.

Logan Pause (Chicago Fire) and Kyle Beckerman (RSL): On the wrong side of 27 years old in soccer years playing in a position considered a US strongpoint, these defensive midfielders have demonstrated a consistent presence defensively. However, Dax McCarty and Danny Sztela would have proven better options for the holding midfielder position based on age, upside, and recent international performances.

Jay Heaps (NE England Revs): Gifted with vertical hops and defensive tenacity, the Duke defender passed his prime many moons ago. This is not a criticism of his abilities but rather a point that the USA offers several younger more talented players available. Jeremy Hall or Michael Orozco would have slotted in perfectly at left back. Could Parkhurst be used to play at left or right back?

Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo):has proved most doubters that he deserves to wear the US crest but using a roster spot on Ching makes me scratch my head. Perhaps, Coach Bradley would like to evaluate Charlie Davies or Kenny Cooper paired with Ching. Although Eddie Johnson has fallen into soccer obscurity, the talented  and young speedster still boasts a skill set and international stats that very few have duplicated.

Robbie Rogers, Kenny Cooper, Colin Clarke, Santino Quaranta, and Stuart Holden can impress with a good tournament and strong individual performances. Michael Parkhurtst and Clarence Goodson can press for the fourth center back position. Although Sam Cronin has played admirably in the 2009 MLS season as a rookie, it will be interesting to witness how he competes on the international level. Is Brad Evans an international caliber player?

Soccer goals: With DaMarcus Beasley void of the skills to fulfill his duties during the failed left back experiment and Jonathan Bornstein and Heath Pearce unable to secure a starting position due to inconsistent play, questions and doubt persist to the quality and depth at left back as South Africa 2010 approaches quickly.

Rennes left back and US captain/center back, Carlos Bocanegra, was deployed as a left back against Spain and Brazil in the Confederations Cup knockout stages. But, his performance experienced mix reviews. His defensive skills produce a calming quality in the back line, but his inability to close down fast wingers and advance in the attack raises questions to his skill set as an international left back.

This soccer videos features Edgar Castillo highlights and soccer goals.

A report surfaced yesterday suggesting that Edgar Castillo "would play for the United States." Although shunned by the USSF due to his diminutive stature, the New Mexico native chose to develop his skills with Mexican powerhouse Santos Laguna after graduation. Garnering soccer respect came early in his high school career as he earned NCSAA/Adidas New Mexico State player of the Year. With a chip on his shoulder, the speedy left sided player ascended up the Mexican ladder of futbol, helping Santos secure the 2008 Mexican title.

With his stock rising, Coach Hugo Sanchez called up Castillo to play in the Olympic qualifiers where he scored a goal in three games. In addition, he played in four friendlies for the the Mexican Men's National Team. With the Mexican Federation spiraling out of control and experiencing four coaching changes in less than two years, it has become evident that Castillo's international future provides uncertainty.

A recent FIFA rule change, allowing players to switch nationalities, if the player was not cap tied to the Senior squad, has sparked rumors that the America defender will jump ship to the USS Bradley. It is possible that the USA could benefit in the next two months from this controversial rule change when both midfielder Jermain Jones (Germany) and Edgar Castillo (Mexico) switch allegiances, hoping to make an impact for the Red, White, and Blue.

Now, the question remains: Will Edgar Castillo solidify the left back position? Many have stated that his touch, skill on-the-ball, and flank speed surpass those of the current selection, but his defensive play requires additional fine-tuning. Whether you agree with the rule change or accept him on the USMNT, Soccer Addict News will review the dearth at left back. And, which current senior and youth players offer solutions to the perpetual concern at left back?

Present

1. Heath Pearce (Out of Contract): considered the favor for the left back starting role has fallen into soccer obscurity losing both his role at club and country. Self proclaimed as the best left back in the US pool in 2007, the Bradenton Academy defender struggle to earn a starting position over Coach Bradley's favorite, Jonathan Bornstein. Although Pearce commands good speed, strong frame, ample defensive skills, and good touch, his attitude and confidence have suffered from his Bundesliga play which dissolved as he was demoted to the reserve side. Playing time will cure all ailments and picking the appropriate team that will field him on a regular basis will be even more important. This season - where ever he plays - will make or break the mercurial back's chances for 2010.

2. Edgar Castillo (Club America): gifted with a good touch, speed, and offensive repertoire, the sky should be the limit for the young speedster. However, many pundits claim that his game has recently stagnated, and his slight frame will not translate to the international game. Although these critics point to his deficiencies, the USA's dearth exhibits a painful truth that Coach Bradley must experience to find his best options. If Castillo can improve his defensive skill set combined with his offensive attributes, Coach Bradley could reveal Castillo as a possible starting left back heading into South Africa.

3. Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA):considered a Bradley favorite, has failed to capitalize on his opportunities. Although he garners attention for his speed and advance in the attack on the MLS level, the Chivas defender has provided limited opportunities in the attack struggling defensively with quicker and stronger wingers. The Conferderations Cup demonstrated that Bornstein is an upgrade over DaMarcus Beasley at left back but has worn out his welcome with the USMNT with sub par performances. Speculation exists that the Mexican American will move to Europe following the 2009 MLS season. Perhaps, his development will flourish in Europe where he will challenged on a daily basis.

4. Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes Ligue 1):deemed the emergency left back when the US faces an opponent such as Brazil or  Spain. His leadership and calming presence offers several appealing attributes at the left back position. Although he plays this position at Rennes, his lack of offensive advancement, lateral speed, and suspect distribution disqualifies his inclusion except in extreme emergencies (Bornstein and Pearce's fallen form). His ability to slot in an instance allows Coach Bradley the versatility in case of emergency, poor form,  or injury.

5. Right Back Conversion: With the left side void of talent, it is feasible to accept that several right backs could play on the left. Although they do not boast the natural qualities of a left-footed player, several right backs could offer better options if the other aforementioned "left-sided" players do not work out. Jonathan Spector, Marvell Wynne, and Frankie Hejduk provide the ability to excel at left back despite plying their trade as right backs. It will be interesting to see which direction Coach Bradley takes after evaluating the current players during CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.

The Left Back Generation: Currently the US situation is doom and gloom when one discusses the left back options. However, it appears that the youth players will eventually supplant the current crop. Let's take a look at the potential players for 2014.

1. Anthony Wallace (FC Dallas): demonstrated his ability at the U-20 World Cup in Canada at the ripe age of 18. Besides earning the starting left back role for FC Dallas, the Tampa lefty, now 20,  will play in his second U-20 World Cup in Egypt. Boasting offensive skill, speed, and good crossing, the Hoop defender's future appears promising, despite rumors that his training habits reveal a level of complacency. His potential suggests that this experienced youth international will make the jump to Europe and also the Senior National level.

2. Rodney Wallace (DC United):has stated that he would like to play for the USMNT. However, his citizenship status is a work in progress. But, if he were secure his US passport, the speedy and athletic lefty would have to be considered the front runner for the 2014 starting position. His pedigree suggests that he can achieve a high international level as his Uncle starts for the Costa Rican National Team at right back. His break out season for DC United conveys a sense of urgency for US hopefuls who dream that the United Speedster chooses the stars and stripes.

3. Jeremy Hall (NY Red Bulls):  a work in progress, is another speedster who can play both on the right and left has ascended on the future National Team radar performing admirably in MLS despite his poor combine performance. His speed and athleticism boast a solid foundation for a candidate that could develop into a top left back option. In addition, Hall's youth national team experience indicates that the speedy Terrapin can make the transition to the international level boasting good touch, defensive attributes, and distribution.

Soccer Goals: With the Copa Confederations and Superliga drawing all the soccer attention from fans, the red haired stepchild, Major League Soccer, took a backseat this week but offered some intriguing matchups. The Seattle Sounders and Real Salt Lake both scored three goals while keeping a blank sheet. Nate Jacqua and Fredy Montero offered a huge helping of goal pie scoring two and one soccer goals respectively.

Soccer Goals: Following the strong US performance and heart-wrenching defeat, featuring three second-half Brazilian goals, the USA and its' supporters should tip their hat to the effort displayed in the final three game. Although it would have been fantastic to witness the USA hoist the Confederations Cup and secure a victory against the Samba Kings, this tournament will be remembered as a coming out party for some and a potential funeral for others.

Proving that his play warrant advancement up field, Clint Dempsey has shown good progress playing up top. The only question remains: Who will replace him as a midfielder. With the Gold Cup an audition to receive additional call-ups, several players will receive the opportunity to mark the coming of "X" player.

Let's take a look at who fared well in the tournament and those who have played themselves out of Bob's good graces.

Tim Howard, A: still the number keeper further solidified his role with back-to-back performances and the Goalkeeper Glove.  Many have take notice of his anticipation, timely saves, and leadership.

Brad Guzan, B+: played well in a game that the USA needed in order to miraculously advance to the next round. The Pharaoh's offensive onslaught late in the second half would have challenged any world-class keeper. Next, on the list, secure starting position at Aston Villa.

Jonathan Spector, B+:played admirably through all five games. If he remains healthy during 2009 and 2010, Coach Bob Bradley will have to decide where the Hammer's defender fits in the starting Xl. It would seem logical to suggest that composed defender start practicing his left footed crosses. With the left back position wide open, Spector could secure his place in the starting Xl.

Oguchi Oneywu, A: will sport some major bling after this tournament dominating the air like Dikembe Mutombo and Wilt Chamberlain. His anticipation, timing, and intensity demonstrated that he is no longer a diamond in the rough, only a diamond. What team will secure his services? Good question, but, please go to a team that will promise you a starting spot.

Jay Demerit, -A: moved up the center back pecking order to number three with great performances in the last six games. The Green Bay native needs to move to the Barclay's Premier League and earn significant playing time to challenge Carlos Bocanegra for a starting position.

Carlos Bocanegra, B-:played a tremendous game against Fabregas, Xavi, and Ramos shielding them from making penetrating runs. His luck ran out against Brazil when faced with Ramirez, Maicon, and Kaka. The Rennes defender can plug the left back position in emergencies or when facing opponents without world-class speed. His versatility will further bolster Coach Bob Bradley's options.

Danny Califf, C-:Ever since your poor performance against El Salvador, your stock has dropped considerably. Previously considered the # 3 in depth, you continue to drop as the Gold Cup defenders stake their claim on a seat to South Africa. Michael Parkhurst, Michael Orozco, and Chad Marshall knock at the door. Will Bradley let one of them in?

Jonathan Bornstein, C: considered one of Bradley's favorites, should fall out of the national team picture after a his performances in the Confederation's cup. His play offers little defensive stability, and the myth that his best attribute is  his ability to advance in the attack is misguided. Bornstein looked slow, timid, and still unable offer decent crosses but is an upgrade over the left back Beasley experiment. If he continues to receive calls to Camp Bradley, nepotism will continue to be the cry of US supporters.

Heath Pearce, C:struggled to receive playing time. Actually he only saw the pitch during warm-ups and while sitting the bench. Although I feel that he is are best left back prospect who is left footed, I would have to agree he would be fourth on the wing back depth chart. If he earns playing time at his new club, he could challenge once again for the starting left back position. But, that notion looks highly unlikely with emergence of Spector and Bocanegra as another option. Perhaps, a move to MLS would solidify playing time and a chance to play in South Africa. Your ability states the case for your inclusion, but the stars are not in alignment which signals that a facet in your game is not right.

Marvell Wynne, C: Plagued by a poor performance against Los Ticos which was not completely attributed to your performance but rather due to formation and tactical deficiencies, the speedy wing back should receive another opportunity later in the year with injuries a certainty. Our version of Brazil's Maicon, Wynne must focus on club play in order to make his mark on the international stage later in 2009.

Clint Dempsey, A: appeared tired through the first two games improved his play the rest of the tournament in the final three games scoring consecutively. It is apparent that the Deuce's play poses greater danger when he closer to the goal where his touches proved magical. Before and after receiving the Bronze ball and silver medal, it was apparent that the game meant so much to him as he wept from despair after losing in the final. His passionate play displayed that he offered the heart that was missing in the first two US matches. If Dempsey continues his strong play and becomes a more focal point for Fulham, the sky is the limit for the 26 year old Texas native.

Landon Donovan, A+: proved to be the catalyst of the USMNT. His defensive work rate, runs, and vision allowed the USA to perform wonderfully in the final three matches. Landon Donovan raised some eyebrows after his spectacular performances and has gained additional respect. Which European suitor will splurge on the 27 year old California native.

DeMarcus Beasley, D-:During the worst tactical moves by Coach Bradley in the first Brazil game, he decided to start the unconfident, slower, tired left winger whose set piece error lead to Brazil's brisk counter-attack goal. It is time for Beasley to receive his walking papers and straighten out his club and fitness situation. Bradley's tenure will be short lived if he continues to integrate the former speedster into the National Team.

Ricardo Clark, A-:stepped up his game after the red card suspension providing the defensive stability that allowed the USA to stifle Spain and Egypt. Europen suitors have gained interest in the athletic and underrated central midfielder.

Benny Feilhaber, B: offered glimpses of why he should continue to receive additional call-ups. His defense and work rate has improved tremendously. His passing, vision, and composure on the ball allowed the USA to break pressure and lead to the US attack. Continued playing time will further state his case for a roster spot in South Africa 2010.

Sacha Kljestan, D-:shot himself in the foot with his red card, constant turnovers, and shaky defending. Several months ago, US supporters and media clamored for his inclusion. His game and confidence needs substantial improvement. His USMNT future resembles that of DaMarcus Beasley.

Michael Bradley, A-: has blossomed into the complete central midfield player that many envisioned in 2007 when his father assumed the role of Coach. His advance in the attack and ability to comfortably play out of defensive pressure signals his rise to stardom, despite his occasional reckless tackles and adrenaline rush.

Francisco Torres, C: would have been a good option to play instead of Sacha Kljestan  in both Brazil games. The talented Texas midfielder failed to receive playing time after his second half exit against Costa Rica. His composure and skill on the ball suggest that the Pachuca youngster will receive additional chances.

Freddy Adu, C: Many clamored for the introduction of Freddy Adu but were disappointed to witness Conor Casey in place of the skilled phenom. The Gold Cup should offer the Ghanian-born prodigy a platform to showcase his skills and prove the critics wrong. His defensive tenacity and positioning must improve, but club playing time must take place if Freddy Adu makes his way to South Africa.

Charlie Davies, B+: provided the speed, defensive coverage and spark to ignite the USA into the semifinals and then finals. Several European suitors have expressed interest, and Charlie Davies has emerged on Spanish and Mexican media as the new break-out player for the Stars and Stripes.

Jozy Altidore, B-:play could be described as up-and-down. During one game he appeared ready to play and in the other he tired by the first half appearing uninterested. Playing time will cure all of Jozy's ailments and deficiencies. My greatest complaint regarding his game stems from his lethargic work rate, poor body positioning and his inability to hold possession aerially and when he turns his opponent.

Conor Casey, C-:  failed to capitalize on his opportunities and was plagued by Jozy-itis (failing to cover defensive ground while showing little intensity. Granted, his game is predicated by service from the wings, but I feel that Kenny Cooper or Brian Ching offer as much in the hold-up play and aerially as Casey.

Bob Bradley, C: It has become evident that Bradley has realized that his 4-4-2 is his best formation moving forward. Several issues still exist with his tactics opting for favorites and loyalty rather than performance based criteria. Kljestan, Bornstein, Casey, and Beasley need to step aside for a while to allow for new players who can prove themselves on the international level. Spector, Davies, Feilhaber, and Clark (considered by many not competent at this level) demonstrated their worth on the United States Mens National Team.

Soccer Goals: More reaction from the Confederations Cup!

Posted by Joel Shirey On June - 29 - 2009

Many from constrasting opinions will view this game and tournament as both positive and negative. Despite losing in the final 2-3 and boasting a 2-0 lead at half time, the USA must look at the positives and learn from their mistake as they continue CONCACAF qualifying on August 12th against Mexico, a team in need of three points.

Both Bob Bradley and Press Pass offer their thoughts in this soccer video describing what they felt and how to improve moving forward. Some pundits feel that the USA has maximized their potential and possess very little room to grow. However, others believe that the USA could experience a break-out South Africa 2010 if they can continue to score soccer goals and provide a dangerous attack on a continous basis.

Soccer Goals: During the first half, most US supporters must have felt nervousness, surprise, and jubilation as Clint Demspey and Landon Donovan scored two goals in the first 25 minutes. What was even more impressive is that they detained the Brazil attack the whole first half. After seconds in the second half, the US supporters felt the lump in their throat after Luis Fabiano turned and swiveled defender Jay Demerit to slot in a through-the-legs goal, that gave Brazil the momentum and broke the back of the stars and stripes.

This soccer videos features soccer goals and highlights of the USA vs Brazil final.

Quickly after conceding Brazil's first goal, Coach Dunga kicked his offensive machine into overdrive mounting attack-after-attack and unleashing Maicon to make perpetual runs for the remainder of the second half. Although Tim Howard earned Goalkeeper of the tournament and made several timely saves, he could not provide the necessary fortress as the Selecao proved why they boast a top international team.

Even though the loss proved difficult for the USA, apparent by the tears of Clint Dempsey as he received his Bronze Ball award and medal, the US federation, supporters, and media must realize the posistives that emerged after a horrid start to the tournament.

Several player's performances have garnered interest internationally, and their displays have propelled themselves as potential starter for Coach Bradley, provided that their play continues to improve in the following months. After earning a red card in the first half against Italy, Ricardo Clark played admirably covering ground, passing effectively, and staying away from potential dangerous tackles that sent him to the showers early in the Italy match. International interest has emerged recently as Italian, English, Spanish, and now French clubs(Rennes) now seek the services of the low-key midfielder.

With both Frankie Hejduk and Steve Cherundolo sidelined with injuries, Jonathan Spector demonstrated his abilities to compete when healthy. His calm and collective style halted the opposition's flank play while adding great service and composed passing. Although his overlapping runs were limited due to his defensive responsibilities, his defensive stability allowed Clint Dempsey to venture forward knowing that Spector would hold down the fort.

Demonstrating moments and flashes of ability in limited playing time was not sufficient enough for Charlie Davies to earn a starting spot until the Egypt game of the Confederations Cup. His energy inspired the USA to 3-0 victory which allowed the USA to miraculously advance to the semifinals. Against Spain, Davies terrorized the back line with his pace and diagonal runs which opened space for other teammates. His counterattack pass and assist to Landon Donovan suggests that he belongs in the US roster as they attempt to qualify for the South Africa 2010. His pace and defensive pressure offers an element that had been lacking in previous games.

Losing 2-3 hurts especially when leading at half 2-0, but we all must remember that the USA faced a Brazil side with superior talent. Maicon and Luis Fabiano can change the game in an instance while Coach Dunga provides the offensive/defensive balance present in his tactics. With this defeat, the USA has gained many international admirers. The tournament provided a perfect platform to evaluate the players and the team collectively. The USA will bring this added confidence to Azteca Aug 12th when they confront Mexico in a CONCACAF Qualifier. Congratulations to Coach Bradley and the players for the heart-inspired performance.

Player Grades

Tim Howard, 8: battled, dived, and inspired the US side but fell short with the constant offensive attacks. His Goalkeeper Glove award earned respect of many playing superbly against both Spain and Brazil.

Jonathan Spector, 6: offered another great cross that resulted in the first Demspey goal. His crossing and passing proved his worth, but struggled laterally against the best in Kaka and Robinho.  His stock has risen after this tournament, and let's hope that he remains healthy the remainder of 2009 and 2010.

Oguchi Onyewu, 6: controlled the aerially battles but was caught ball watching on several occasions. His tournament play earned him some extra cash heading into his lucrative-upcoming contract.

Jay Demerit, 6.5: Many will point to Fabiano's second half goal, but the Watford defender offered another solid performance. The Green Bay native has emerged as a player on the rise for both club and country.

Carlos Bocanegra, 5: could have closed down on Ramirez and Maicon better but was hesitant to do so because of their speed. Pick your poison: Play compact while Onyewu and Demerit control the air, or allow Maicon to penetrate on attacking runs. The Rennes defender should slot in at left back when the USA plays teams that don't have fast flank players. But, he did demonstrate a tremendous heart through the elimination rounds.

Clint Demspey, 6.5: would have earned a higher score if he would have marked Lucio's game-winning header. His first half performance and goal was tremendous but faded defensively in the second half. I admire  Deuce's heart as he cried while receiving his Bronze ball and silver medal. It was apparent that the Nagodoches native desired the victory and was disappointed to earn second place.

Ricardo Clark, 7:jammed up the central midfield, like the old lady at the super market, who leaves her cart in the middle of the aisle, delaying and causing a frustrating shopping experience. While making several good passes, one which sprung Charlie Davies and Landon Donovan for a break-away goal, Clark demonstrated his hawk-like midfield presence and opportunistic passing. Underrated by many in US circles, it is apparent that Clark finally received the deserved credit for a break-out tournament. Clubs from France, Italy, Spain, and England have all expressed interest in his services.

Benny Feilhaber, 6: faced the country of his birth, a team with excellent players at every position. He proved that he can compete and defend at the highest level. His composure on-the-ball and solid passing allowed the USA to gain the 2-0 advantage. His legs tired on him in the second half but offered a solid performance.

Landon Donovan, 7: epitomized heart on the second goal with his break away pass to Charlie Davies and his chop and far post strike against Ramirez and Cesar. He jump started the US attack on several occasions and track backed defensively in the first half. As his legs fatigued, Donovan's defensive presence diminished which allowed for Maicon's perpetual crosses into the US box. Landon Donovan lead by example all tournament and was the team's MVP sparking the US attack. I can hear European suitors adding Donovan's agent to speed dial. Who is next in the Donovan Sweepstakes?

Jozy Altidore, 4.5: Praised for his goal against Spain, the Man-child offered little in energy and was bullied physically by the opposition. His effort demonstrated little energy and passion. Mall walkers would have surpassed his pace on certain occasions. Freddy Adu is criticized for being bullied while possessing the ball and failing to demonstrate defensive intensity. His performance describes why Adu rides the bench for the USMNT. With a 40 pound weight advantage over Adu, Altidore should make better use of Lebron-esque frame.

Charlie Davies, 6.5: utilized his pace once again to keep the Selecao defense honest. His return pass to Landon Donovan for the second goal was superb. The speedy Davies used his body to screen off Brazilian players earning several fouls. His emergence boasts well for the US' chances moving forward. His speed creates space for the midfielders and forwards.

Bob Bradley, 5.5: His game plan worked to perfection in the first half and would see the USA go up 2-0, playing in a 4-4-2 formation. But, an early second half goal would suggest that Brazil would boast the heart necessary to hoist the Confederations Cup trophy. Several questionable tactics took place in the second half when Altidore and Feilhaber began to fade physically, and Bradley did not make the move earlier. In hindsight, Bradley should have considered a more attacking option off the bench. Although Torres does not embody a player with a complete defensive game, his possession and offensive prowess would have fared positively, especially, since Kljestan has recently struggled for both club and country. In addition, Jonathan Bornstein is not the answer at left back or wing.

Sacha Kljestan, 4: It is time for some soul searching after Kljestan added another less-than stellar performance. His confidence and penchant for turnovers could leave the Chivas midfielder out of South Africa.

Jonathan Bornstein, 5:played admirably but should have never entered the game. Bornstein does not offer enough going forward nor enough defensively to supplant a poor-form Heath Pearce. It is time for Spector or Hejduk to make the switch to left back.

Conor Casey N/A: He earned five minutes of playing time.
