Colorado Rapids trade Ugo Ihemelu for Drew Moor

Soccer Goals: Trying to solidify their weakened defensive back line,  FC Dallas traded right back Drew Moor for Colorado Rapis defender, Ugo Ihemelu. In addition, FC Dallas spiced up the deal by adding a 2010 second-round pick and allocation money in order to reunite Coach Hyndman and Ihemulu from their SMU days.

Prefering the more defensive-minded and athletic Ugo Ihemelu, Coach Hyndman hopes to solidfy a Hoops defense that has conceded countless and late-game goals. Although not as defensive minded as Ihemulu, Drew Moor has proven himself on the MLS level with his penchant in the attack, great crossing, and ability to score goals aerially during set pieces.  This season with the Hoops, the US international has scored three goals in 22 appearances.

Having two first-round, a secound-round, two third-round, and one fourth round picks, FC Dallas looks to the future, as their season has been plagued by injuries, inconsistancy, and failed execution. With recent acquisitions of Jair Benetiz (left back), Marvin Chavez (midfielder), and Atiba Harris (right winger) and a shift to the recent youth movement, FC Dallas appears poised to make serious player movement and development in the upcoming 2010 season.

From Coach Gary Smith's perspective, securing a right back that can provide great service to both Conor Casey and Omar Cummings will allow the Rapids to bolster their offensive attack, as it appears that midfielder Jamie Smith suffered a knee injury in their victory over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday. With Colin Clark suffering a season ending knee injury, the Rapids needed flank reinforcements. Will Drew Moor provide that extra element the remainder of the season?

DaMarcus Beasley off to Germany or Spain?

With less than 24 hours remaining in the European transfer deadline and waiting on new of a potential move for midfiedler Damarcus Beasley, reports have surfaced suggesting that several clubs in Spain and Germany are interested in the speedy Ranger.

As injuries have hampered him since 2005/06 after transfering from Manchester City from PSV, the US international has struggled to find his form and fitness with Glasgow's Rangers. With the World Cup approaching in less than a year and his USMNT prospects fading as he remains on the bench, Beasley hopes that he can find a place where he can earn playing time and reemerge as a US prospect.

Soccer Goals: Freddy Adu moves to Belenenses on loan

Posted by Joel Shirey On August - 31 - 2009

Soccer Goals: If your Freddy Adu uniforms, such as his DC United, RSL, Benefica, and AS Monaco jerseys, are taking up space in your closet, then, make room for another one: Freddy Adu is heading Portugal's Belenenses on a year loan. With the clock ticking before the international deadline which ends on Tuesday, September 1st, US fans can breathe a deep sigh of relief with Adu's loan move, as many US supporters believed that Adu would stay with Benefica earning little playing time and riding the bench.

Moving to Lisbon rivals, Belenenses, a club and coach that wants to utilze his talents, bodes well for the US international, considering that a portion of US supporters thought that he would remain inactive with Benefica. Instead of having to ship his Benz or BMW to Denmark or Holland (or whatever he drives), Freddy Adu will be staying in Lisbon where he hopes to make a mark for his new team and reemerge on Coach Bradley's short list during the conclusion for  World Cup qualifying.

With his club situation finally resolved, the former U-20 standout must focus on earning playing time and proving to critics, that those labels of demonstrating casual training habits and not being able to defend, will be dispelled in the upcoming campaign.  He recently offered a statement on twitter saying that  "ok for those who dont know i just completed a 1 year loan move to Belenenses. And im excited to join the team tomorrow for training."

.

After negotiations broke down between Danish top-table side, Odense, over salary disparity and financial issues, Benefica agreed to facilitate Freddy Adu's loan to Belenenses by paying a portion of his salary to finalize the deal.  The move signals the notion that Benefica wants to further his development to either sell him after the season or bring him back to the squad after his loan.

What do you think of his loan move. Are you excited? Do you think he will reemerge with the national team? Will Adu make an impact in the Portuguese league? Share your thoughts.

Soccer Goals: Stuttgart shows interest in Jermaine Jones

Soccer Goals: After suffering a knee injury to Martin Lanig, a Bild report suggests that Stuttgart are interested in the services of Schalke defensive midfielder, Jermaine Jones. Although the soon-to-be US midfielder is still returning from a leg fracture, Stuttgart hopes to entice the Schalke midfielder to their squad.

Charlie Davies earns penalty resulting in Sochaux game winner

On two separate occasions, terrorizing the AS Monaco defense, Charlie Davies could have earned a penalty kick. At the 23rd minute, the US forward earned a penalty kick and the game winner, tallying 85 minutes on the pitch, as Sochaux defeated AS Monaco 1-0.

These soccer videos feature highlights of Charlie Davies.

Whether it was paybacks for not playing Freddy Adu when he was at Monaco or wanting to will his team to victory, the American speedster displayed a nice step-over, cross into the box, and penetrating runs at the opposing defense. In addition,  voted on the Ligue 1 starting Xl by Maxifoot.fr, Charlie Davies received great accolades from the French web site.

Here is a loose translation of their comments on Davies:"The American is already making [Sochaux] forget Mevlut Erding [who moved to PSG this summer]. In just four games, Charlie Davies has become indispensable to the Sochaux formation. Along with the Czech Vaclav Sverkos, he has found his mark. Lively, fast, powerful, Davies caused much worry for the Monacan defense."

What do you think of their performances? Will Jon-Paul Pittman earn more playing time this season? Share your thoughts.
