Edgar Castillo scores against Santos Laguna from 25 yard volley and soccer goals.

Yet to be called in to the USMNT after deciding to switch from the Tricolor to the Red, white, and blue, Tigres left back, Edgar Castillo, scores from an excellent 25 yard volley, struck off the deflection. After scoring the goal, the Spanish-speaking announcers emphatically give Edgar a new rendition of his surname, Ca Ca Ca Ca Ca Castillo!!!!

Theses soccer videos feature soccer goals from Edgar Castillo and Jon-Paul Pittman.

Jon-Paul Pittman scores game winner for League One side, Wycombe.

With very few US supporters aware of Jon-Paul Pittman as he hold dual citizenship for England and the USA, the speedy forward scores the game winner against the Bristol Rovers. After receiving the goal in the box, the Oklahoma native turned left sealing his man and sending a left footed strike to the far left corner. This goal was his second of the season, as his first occurred against Norwich City. Click here to view goal.

Charlie Davies earns penalty resulting in Sochaux game winner

On two separate occasions, terrorizing the AS Monaco defense, Charlie Davies could have earned a penalty kick. At the 23rd minute, the US forward earned a penalty kick and the game winner, tallying 85 minutes on the pitch, as Sochaux defeated AS Monaco 1-0.

These soccer videos feature highlights of Charlie Davies.

Whether it was paybacks for not playing Freddy Adu when he was at Monaco or wanting to will his team to victory, the American speedster displayed a nice step-over, cross into the box, and penetrating runs at the opposing defense. In addition,  voted on the Ligue 1 starting Xl by Maxifoot.fr, Charlie Davies received great accolades from the French web site.

Here is a loose translation of their comments on Davies:"The American is already making [Sochaux] forget Mevlut Erding [who moved to PSG this summer]. In just four games, Charlie Davies has become indispensable to the Sochaux formation. Along with the Czech Vaclav Sverkos, he has found his mark. Lively, fast, powerful, Davies caused much worry for the Monacan defense."

Soccer Goals: After looking dead in the water, Chicago Fire overcame a two-goal second-half deficit in front of a home crowd at Toyota Park. Cuauhtemoc Blanco lead the way by earning a suspect penalty call which he converted with ease. Believing that they still had the game in hand, the Colorado Rapids let down their guard, conceding two goals in the final five minutes.

The featured match up, Seattle Sounders vs Houston Dynamo did not disappoint with a 1-1 scoreline which featured the debut of Houston's DP signing, Luis Landin. Struggling with the initial pressure and intensity of the game, El Escorpion settled in on his game, offering a glimpse of his talents.

Suffering from a real rough stretch of play, the New York Red Bulls finally secured their first victory, snapping their 13 game win-less streak. Juan Pablo Angel netted the game winner when Mac Kandji shot from long distance and the deflection bounced to JPA, who cleanly sent the ball into the net.

Superb goals, intense play, and late game winners embodied the happenings in MLS Week 23. Lets take a look at how the MLS Power Rankings Week 23 fared.

1.   1 Columbus Crew 10-3-9 Taking the weekend off, the Crew travel to NYRB. What happened to the all yellow against Cruz Azul, losing 0-5? Chad Marshall and Eddie Gaven had their hand in all five goals. Their CCL performances make me shamed to support all MLS teams.
2 Houston Dyanamo 11-6-7 The Dynamo could have secured the victory but was unable to penetrate the Sounders defense for the second goal. Luis Landin should start off slow but will be the main attraction while Ching and Holden are absent for international competition.
3.  3 Chicago Fire 10-5-8 Playing with a make shift squad devastated by injuries, the Fire's comeback conjure up miracle-esque performances. Losing Bakary Soumare to Bologne will deplete their defense which is already missing, Conde, Segares, and Ward.
LA Galaxy 8-4-11 The Galaxy earned a 0-0 draw on the road against DC United. Is this team for real? Will Eskandarian and Buddle return for the playoffs?
4 Seattle Sounders 8-6-9 Earning a 1-1 draw was crucial for the Sounders, a team that struggles away from home. If Ljungberg returns healthy and they can play well on the road, the Sounders will evoke fear in the playoffs.
69 Chivas USA 10-7-3 After hearing about how good Jesus Padilla is, Sacha Kljestan conjured up magic, scoring two goals. Losing badly midweek to RSL 0-4 does not help their cause, despite having several games on hand. Padilla has struggled with the tempo and pressure of MLS. Will he make his mark later in the season?
7 10 New England Revolution 8-6-6 With several games in hand, the 1-0 victory over Seatttle has helped their playoff chances. As injured players return, the Revolution could make the playoffs with strong play of Joseph and Ralston. Dube's hat trick was amazing as they defeated RSL 3-1.
86 Colorado Rapids 8-7-6 After conceding three second-half goals, we will see how the Rapids face adversity as they go on the road for five of their last seven games. Cummings will need to pick up the slack with Conor Casey away on national team duty.
9     DC United 6-5-11 They held their ground against the Galaxy, but their defense is proving unstable and unorganized. Conceding two late goals against Toluca in CCL play suggests that the back line is their Achilles heel.
10   8 Toronto FC 8-8-6 Just as TFC starts to build momentum, they go 2008 TFC on us. With such a strong midfield, why are they such a mediocre team? Gerba, White, and Vitti have raised their level of play, but where is the the rest of the team?
11 Real Salt Lake 7-9-6 RSL destroyed Chivas USA midweek. For all those fans that said that RSL was an automatic playoff contender, RSL will miss Robbie Findley during the weekend of Sept 6-10th due to international duty.
12  12 FC Dallas 6-11-5 Losing to the NYRB was unacceptable. Marvin Chavez could see playing time next week as the hoops have a bye week. The U-20 World Cup could deplete the squad.
13   14 San Jose Earthquakes 5-11-5 A last minute 1-0 victory over the Wizard is not convincing enough. The quakes need to build for the future. Cutting high priced commodities should be a priority for next season.
1413 Kansas City Wizards 5-9-6 With games in hand, the Wizards will not make the playoffs. In my 2009 MLS preview, I suggested that the Wizards would not make the playoffs for two reasons: Lack of team speed at forward and wings, recommending they should trade several of their young players who were not seeing action. Although Joelstradamuswasmocked in several scenarios, he has proven his prognostic worth.
15  15 NYRB 3-16-4 Letting them relish in their victory, I am not going to say anything bad. Mac Kandji is the real deal only if he can stay healthy for a whole season. A plus ten goal season awaits.

Were you impressed with Omar Cummings performance? Who will make the playoffs? Will Mac Kandji experience a break season in 2010? Share your thoughts.

Soccer Goals: It was supposed to be different this year for Major League Soccer with Columbus Crew and a reinforced DC United. However,  North American soccer deja-vu came into fruition on Tuesday night in Concacaf Champions League play as DC United lost to Toluca 1-3 and the uninspired Columbus Crew to Cruz Azul0-5. Although both teams were playing top Mexican teams in Cruz Azul and Toluca, DC United and Columbus Crew succumbed to the pressure of playing in the Champions League and against Mexico's best.

What was most glaring is that both MLS teams were unable to provide the competitive level that would earn respect within the CONCACAF region. Despite the poor play from these MLS counterparts, all was not bad in MLS circle, as an inexperienced Houston Dynamo earned a 1-1 draw against Panamanian side, Arabe Unido, who recently defeated Pachuca 4-1 in CCL play.

These soccer videos feature highlights of DC United vs Toluca.

After drawing first blood from a superb Chris Pontius in the 47th minute in the second half to equalize, DC United's fortunes took a turn for the worse as Toluca and Zinha scored two consecutive goals. What makes matters worse is that Zinha drew a foul in the box which the referee failed to call and DC United demonstrated little composure at home, conceding two second half goals. After two games, DC United boast zero points and appears unlikely to advance to the next round.

These soccer videos feature the Crew and Cruz Azul 0-5.

Before the match started, Columbus Crew seemed to be the MLS darlings , but two early goals shocked the Crew, as midfielder Eddie Gaven was guilty for poor marking. Appearing frustrated and shocked, the Columbus Crew demonstrated little heart as the Cementeros were allowed to light up MLS favorites. After the first goal, the avalanche of goals ensued as Cruz Azul scored an additional four goals to win 5-0.

What has become evident that MLS teams can not compete with those of the Mexican Primera Division. Besides not showing heart to outrun their Mexican rivals, the talent disparity has permeated for many years in the CCL. Major League Soccer and its clubs need to look in the mirror and find a way to offer a better product on the field in these international tournaments. If they continue with poor showings in the future, the MLS will still be considered an inferior product to their southern rivals.

What did you think of the games? Are you ashamed of the MLS product? SHare your thoughts.

Soccer goals: Recently reported in French soccer web site Le10 Sport, Landon Donovan could be moving to PSG on a winter loan. Although the deal is still in the negotiation stage, a move to France would send the speedy forward to the same league as US Men's National team colleagues, Charlie Davies and Carlos Bocanegra. Yet undetermined whether the deal will result in a permanent or loan fixture, the US international hopes that he can settle into a club that will allow him playing time.

In a recent SI article by Greg Lalas, he suggested that Donovan would blend well in the Mexican first division with Club America. Although many Tri fans express a love/hate relationship (mostly hate) for the speedster, Lalas believes that his impact would be felt for an America team that has recently experienced difficulties and playing at a consistent level. If McBride and Blanco can be good teammates, why not Donovan and Pavel Pardo?

During a Futbol Picante segment on Espn Deportes, the esteemed panel discussed how Donovan would excel at the Mexican level and that the transition would be farely seamless. How would most Mexican fans embrace LD coming to their league is another story?

Soccer Goals: El Escorpion, Angel Landin, known for his acrobatic goal scored against Morelia, has created a tremendous buzz in MLS and Mexico circles with his recent DP signing. The young talented Mexican striker has further bolstered the Houston Dynamo's depth at forward and should give the Dynamo the extra push heading into the playoffs. Will he make a seamless transition with only four games remaining?

Our footballing buddies at Futbol Picante discuss the Landin deal, declaring that Landin was the best goal scoring last option. Even with Coach Meza's reinforcements, they believe that El Escorpion still would have been at least fourth on the forward depth chart.

What do you think of the deal? Do you believe that Landin will outperform Kamara?  Share your thoughts.

Soccer Goals: Dynamo sign Mexican Forward Luis Landin

Posted by Joel Shirey On August - 21 - 2009

Soccer goals: Just when you thought the Houston Dynamo were loaded at almost every position, the Orange used the their wild card, the Designated player slot, signing Mexican forward Luis Landin.  After failing to secure his services earlier this season, the Houston Dynamo secured the Cruz Azul striker on 18 month loan deal.

These soccer videos feature a goal that he is most noted for.

Wheeling-and-dealing with most MLS clubs and usually getting the better deal (except the DeRosario/Julius James trade) , the Dynamo have further bolstered their club with this marquee signing, becoming Houston's first ever DP signing. In the 2009 season with Cruz Azul, the tall forward scored seven goals in the Apertura in 16 appearances.

The talented forward, who has represented El Tri on five occasions, has tallied 26 goals in 129 appearances for both Morelia and Pachucha. Swift, mobile, dynamic, and hold-up play would best describe the former Pachuca product, who scored in both appearances for the u-23 Olympic qualifiers.

In order to clear roster space, the Houston Dynamo released forward Ade Akinbiyi who was unable to make his mark or impress Coach Dominic Kinnear. Although highly touted in England, Akinbiyi failed to supplant both Kei Kamara and Dominic Oduro for the second striker position along side Brian Ching.

Besides infusing their team with another talented weapon, the DP signing and Landin's popularity should help draw more fans to the stadium and create more buzz within Houston's Latin community. Already in first place in the Western Conference, the Dynamo appear poised to make another run for the 2009 MLS Cup.

What do you think of the signing? Was Ade Akinbiyi a bust? Will the Houston Dynamo win the MLS Cup this season? Share your thoughts.
