In the latest soccer news: Coach Cabrera named his 20 man roster for the U-17 Men's National Team  that will face Cuba, Canada and Honduras in Tijuana, Mexico for the U-17 Concacaf Championship qualifiers. The USA will face Cuba April 21st, Canada April 23rd, and Honduras April 25th with the top two teams advancing to the U-17 World Cup in Nigeria.

The U-17 squad recently travelled to South America where they gained some valuable experience receiving a beatdown by Argentina and Uruguay but defeated Bolivia. The most obvious exclusion was Charles Renken, a highly touted and skilled player who has received attention from several European Clubs who will miss due to a knee injury. After recently entering the Residency Program in the past six weeks, Sebastian Llegett, famed by bloggers and forum junkies as an upcoming player with the skills to make an And1 player jealous, will attempt to replace and provide the spark missing from the injured Charles Renken. Llegget recently scored in the Uruguayan friendly which the US lost 1-3.

Coach Cabrera hopes that his other star players will fill the void, and Jack McInerney boasts the stats to suggest that he can provide that extra spark,  leading the team with 11 goals in 20 games. Carlos Martinez demonstrated his solid flank play in 2007 scoring two goals in friendlies against Russia and Brazil. Joseph Gyau provides the complete attacking package - the dynamic slash-and-dash 1v1 ability combined with exceptional speed and quickness-which has not been evident in recent US Youth internationals for several years.  What do you think of the roster?

In the latest soccer news: Mikkel Diskerud, Norwegian and American U-20 international, scores the equalizer for Stabaek on a tap in from a deflected shot. Entering the game as a substitute, Diskerud proved his worth in the 84th minute with the equalizer. Now, I know what you are going to ask me. Who is this guy?

Mikkel Diskerud, holder of dual nationalities, has played for both the US U-20 and Norwegian U-18 but has not appeared in an official match for either country. He mentioned to Soccer365 that he would like to play for the USA but has not heard from Coach Rongen. He might consider playing for Norway if the USA is not interested. This article features his three assist game for the U-20 MNT.

It could be difficult to project his development, but the young midfielder is only 18 years old and is playing in the Norwegian First Division. Let's hope that the USSF and Thomas Rongen will make the right decision and evaluate the player fairly.

In the latest soccer news, the US U-20 Mens National Team stumbles against Costa Rica conceding three goals. Although the US U-20 MNT performed well through the tournament not conceding a goal, the goal flood gates opened as Los Ticos received scoring contributions from Diego Alonso Estrada, Josue Martinez, and Allen Guevarra.

Previously, the US U-20 squad bolstered a 10 game unbeaten streak in CONCACAF qualifying dating back to 2002 where they lost to Canada. In addition, the US defense conceded their first goal in over 628 minutes demonstrating their solid and organized back line. Brian Perk had a fantastic tournament producing four clean sheets and earning Man-of-the-match honors twice.

Thomas Rongen spoke about the overall and final's performance stating that "we made a lot of changes tonight to try to put ourselves in a situation to be successful, but also to look at some players under pressure." Rongen added that "I’m disappointed in the loss but overall satisfied with the way we’ve played throughout the finals. Getting to Egypt was our primary goal here, we reached that and to reach a final is a very good accomplishment for a team that came together in a very short amount of time. We did some very good things, and I think this team will represent us well in Egypt."

Although Costa Rica exposed the US U-20 squad giving the USA a second place finish, Kyle Davies earned Man-of-the-Match Honors. The USA qualified for the event which was the goal at hand but fell short in the final. This is the starting line-up and formation  for the Costa Rican game.
