Latest domestic and international soccer news

With the celebrated Presidential Inauguration occurring yesterday and the movement towards change and equality, Soccer Addict News would like  show its' appreciation with a feature for their southern neighbors, Mexico. We would like to show our gratitude for bringing the beautiful game to the States, the intense USA vs Mexico rivalry, and the endless debate of who has the better National team ie who has the better players vs team debate.

This feature will highlight how the 2009 Mexican Clausura kicked off in style with several enjoyable games. Toluca and Atlante did not disappoint with their hard fought battle resulting in a goal fest and a 3-3 draw. My favorite game of the week was Chivas de Guadalajara vs Cruz Azul which ended in a 3-3 draw. The story lines were interesting such as the debut of Carlos Ochoa,  Panchito Mendoza's performance, and remeniscing about my visits to El Estadio de Jalisco.

If it were not for DVR, the great invention that it is, this article would not have been possible. After watching Chivas begin to give out a goliza to Cruz Azul, I told my self that the game was virtually over and decided to channel surf for a few minutes. Thinking that Cruz Azul  would crumble under the pressure of the massive El Stadio Jalisco, Chivas' fans, and the infamous urine bombs that are tossed from the third level, I regrettably changed to a movie. I know....I know....I am going to get a hard time from my friends and Mexican soccer fanatics, but the game was over or wasn't it?  Actually, Cruz Azul made a stunning comeback in the first half and scored three unanswered goals.

When I changed the station back to channel 406 of Direct TV, a shameless plug, the game was at halftime, and Cruz Azul was in the lead 3-2. Man, did I feel stupid for changing the station so I re winded the game to the part that I missed and could not believe the turn of events. This is why soccer is so incredible because within a blink of an eye the game can change ie the recent Chelsea vs Stoke City game where Chelsea scored two goals in the last five minutes to win 2-1.

Carlos Ochoa impressed in his two goal 2009 Clasura Chivas debut. Besides scoring two high quality goals, Ochoa displayed a strong work rate, passion, and defensive tenacity. Is it possible that Ocho could be called up again for any friendlies or qualifiers this year? After playing in qualifiers for Javier Aguirre as Mexican National Team coach, Ochoa did not wear El Tri Uniform for five years but recently began his national team endeavors again. Sven Goran Erickson, Mexican Team Coach, could consider him for a friendly against Sweden or possibly a qualifier if he is impressive.

Included is a soccer video of the Highlights of Chivas vs Cruz Azul.

The Chivas vs Cruz Azul will receive additional accolades for its production quality and its' camera angles that illustrate in super slow motion. Wow, this technology allows one to watch where the players strike the ball when shooting on goal.  Why don't some of the bigger leagues utilize this technology? ESPN's Champions League has a high quality production with camera angles virtually every where on the pitch, but this same high level of production is lacking in other matches that take place in the  Barclays Premier League and La liga.

The Chivas/Cruz Azul was also interesting to watch considering that it was the first time to watch Panchito Mendoza, formerly of Chivas USA, play on his beloved Guadalajara side. Mendoza came in the second half and looked lively but was hit extremely hard with a cleat to the shoulder leaving puncture marks.  Hopefully, during the rest of the season Mendoza will be juking defenders and scoring goals rather than taking unsteralized cleat injections to the shoulder.

The impact in this clip would even make Willis McGahee (Baltimore Ravens) cringe. The collision takes place on the 2:50 minute mark of the soccer video. Enjoy

Ok, here it is. You bent my arm....Uncle!!!!!!!!!  Willis McGahee receives a devastating hit from Pittsburg in the AFC Championship game.
