Latest Soccer News: Inter Milan defeats AC Milan 2-1 in derby match

Posted by Joel Shirey On February - 16 - 2009

In the latest soccer news, Inter Milan has created space on the top of the Serie A table winning the 270th Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan 2-1. Inter Milan created more separation on the table as their lead has increased to nine points over second place Juventus. Inter Milan capitalized on their opportunities in the first half scoring goals by Adriano and Stankovich.

This soccer video features AC Milan vs Inter Milan derby.

If you missed this game or forgot to record it, don't worry because Fox Soccer Channel will replay the game throughout the week. This derby would not disappoint as Inter Milan looked like they were going to cruise to victory after scoring the second goal. Inter asserted its dominance after the first twenty minutes of the game and starting the second half Stankovich missed a perfect opportunity to close the game out but failed.

With this perfect opportunity wasted by Inter, AC Milan had awaken and began applying offenisve pressure to the Inter defense that went into its shell. Milan continued to attack sending more numbers and finally in the 71st minute, Pato scored the goal to give AC Milan the chance for the draw. While gaining all the offensive moment, it appeared that AC Milan was going to get the equalizer. However, goal keeper Julio Cesar displayed an extraordinary performance as he helped earn the three points and point separation between first and second place. AC Milan fans felt the pain as they saw a beautiful Inzaghi header reaching the back of the net which was disallowed as he was determined offsides.

The Inter's second half tactics were surprising because Inter had neutralized themselves playing defensive even though they had looked so dangerous in the first and beginning of the second half. If they would have continued to pressure AC Milan offensively, Inter could have scored another goal and sealed the deal which would have allowed them to play defense and possession to finish the game. This Italian derby did not disappoint and was very open and attack oriented.

Did you see the game? Are you surprised that AC Milan did not equalize? What are your thoughts?

Latest Soccer News: Beckham is staying in LA Galaxy

Posted by Joel Shirey On February - 14 - 2009

In the latest soccer news, David Beckham will return to the LA Galaxy as AC Milan never made a second offer for Beckham's service. Although Beckham had desired to stay with Super Club AC Milan, the city of angels with its palm trees, star appeal, glamour, and beautiful oceans will welcome him back to the Home Depot Center as he will return as the LA Galaxy midfielder.  The Galaxy had rejected AC Milan's first offer of $10 million and were hoping for a substantially better bid. Unfortunately, for David Beckham, the bottom line compounded its asking price as the two parties were at two different negotiating points.

Tim Leiweke, President of La Galaxy parent AEG, told the AP that "We didn't receive an offer today. We will abide by the commissioner's wishes, so we are clear at this point that we don't want to have any further conversations."  Leiweke continued stating that the Beckham deal complex due to its financial ramifications. He stated  "They clearly were looking at this as a football decision and we were looking at it as a football and business decision. I'm not sure they ever quite understood the magnitude of the losses the Galaxy and the league would have had to bear this season. They were very respectful discussions. We're fine. There's no issues here."

It is interesting that the deal did not transpire. The financial ramificationsmust have caused the LA Galaxy to allow Beckham to stay this last season and have the option of opting out of his contract after the 2009 season. The scenario was obviously not economically feasible for the LA Galaxy and AC Milan.

It will be interesting if Beckham's level of play drops off at AC Milan or LA Galaxy as the decision has been made. It would be excellent if the LA Galaxy could make the deal go through, but it appears that Beckham will stay one more and then leave.

Was it a good move for MLS to make a deadline?  Will the deal still go through? What are you thoughts?

Latest Soccer News: David Beckham Watch-Straight from the horses mouth

Posted by Joel Shirey On February - 5 - 2009

In the latest soccer news, David Beckham declared his desire to play for AC Milan after the friendly with Rangers in Glasgow, Scotland. David Beckham stated that he feels very fortunate to still be playing at such a high level. Although a deal has not been reached with the LA Galaxy, Beckham has mind set on playing in Europe in order to prove his English national team worth for the World Cup 2010.

If people say that David Beckham has not done anything for the sport, guess again. Although he has not converted the US' masses into soccer junkies, Beckham has gained substantial exposure. ESPN continues to cover this development on mainstream shows such as Around the Horn. Jim Rome, long time hater of soccer, has even tuned in to watch a Major League Soccer game which is surprising considering that Rome was happy when his young son told him that he did not want to play soccer any more. Last year Rome's radio broadcast dedicated a segment about the MLS game between the Galaxy and DC United which was televised on a Sunday afternoon on ABC. Rome basically commented about how hard Beckham kicks the ball hitting Gonzalo Martinez in the family jewels. To even dedicate a few minutes to soccer is amazing for Jim Rome since he does not embrace soccer in any way. Usually, he mocks the game and points out its' deficiencies. Although they are small strides, it is progress nevertheless. The USA is becoming more accepting of soccer and the youth are embracing the sport like previous generations did with baseball, basketball, and football.

Whether he goes or stays, David Beckham should receive a lot of credit for what he has done not what he hasn't done. Major League Soccer and the LA Galaxy financial standing has improved since he arrived in the USA. Let's hope that David Beckham does well at AC Milan, and at the end of his career he can return to MLS to continue promoting the league that should improve since his departure.

What is your favorite Beckham moment?  Are you thankful that he helped promote the beautiful game here? Will Beckham continue succeed in AC Milan and national side?  What are your thoughts? Let us know.

In the latest soccer news, DaMarcus Beasley, US international and Ranger midfielder, scored a goal against AC Milan in a friendly in Glasgow, Scotland. Although Beasley has not seen much playing time with the Rangers, he took full advantage receiving a long pass from Maurice Edu, settling the ball, fighting off two defenders, and poaching the ball in the back of the net.

Rumors have been swirling that DaMarcus Beasley's time with the Rangers are in its final stages. Speculation exists that he might reunite with Coach Bruce Arena and the LA Galaxy after his potential transfer to Schalke 04 fell through at the last minute and the possible departure of Beckham and Donovan.

Can Beasley still play in Europe? Yes. Is Scotland and England the best place for him to play? Probably not. If he would have transferred to Schalke 04 (Bundesliga), he might have been able to challenge for playing time. French, Dutch, Spanish, and Portuguese leagues would suit him better in the long term and would be able to extend his European stay.

What is most important for Beasley from a national team perspective is to earn solid minutes playing for his club. Perhaps, his national team performance can amount into a transfer to another club. However, until he lands substantial minutes, his transfer value will continue to slide as he rides the bench or is excluded from the 18 man roster.

Is it good to see Beasley playing again?  Should Beasley stay in Europe with another team or return to Major League Soccer?  Will Beasley start at Left wing for the USA against Mexico? Will Maurice Edu be invited to the upcoming US qualifier?  Let us know. We want to know your thoughts!

In the latest soccer news, David Beckham is seeking legal counsel as he is prepared to make a permanent deal with AC Milan. After experiencing great success scoring twice and adding three assists in the last three games, Beckham's approval rating is soaring at AC Milan receiving praise from several of his teammates.

According to soccernet, David Beckham's lawyers are talking to the Los Angeles Galaxy who are the rightful owners of his registration," said the Milan chief. "If they show themselves to be ready to look at a deal, we would be really happy to do so." Galliani went on to say "At the moment there's neither optimism nor pessimism. We are looking to get him either on loan until the end of the season or on a permanent basis. Otherwise, with the greatest regret from everyone - starting with me - Beckham will have to go."

AC Milan will be playing a friendly against Scottland's Rangers in Glasgow on February 4, 2009. It appears that David Beckham can still do more than sell uniforms, underwear, and fill Major League Stadiums. His desire to continue his England international career has inspired very good performances for superclub AC MIlan fueling the fire  for a potential permanent move.

It looks like the deal could go through? If Landon Donovan stays in Bayern Munich, what will happen to the LA Galaxy? Would Arena consider bringing in a Demarcus Beasley or would they go in another direction. What do you think of this continuing saga? Let us know.
