Soccer goals and soccer videos: Depleted of key veteran presence and playing with a make shift squad, the New England Revolutions challenged the Chicago Fire until Cuauhtemoc Blanco noted a perfect set piece goal. It is fortunate for MLS that the Chicago Fire qualify for the Super Liga final and field a competitive team that should give Tigres a run for their money. The New England Revs could not offer the same level of competition that the Fire will provide on August 5th.

These soccer videos features highlights of the Revs vs Fire and Santos vs Tigres.

In the other Superliga Final, The Tigres pounced on Santos Laguna with two early first half goals, securing a 3-2 victory to advance to the Superliga Final. Franciso Fonseca scored a brace in the first half and frustrated Mexican keeper Oswaldo Sanchez who screamed at his defense after both goals. Although it appeared that the Tigres were a Super Liga aberration, they have proven that they can compete with the best, defeating the talented Santos Laguna.

Fonseca's play reminded me how this talented player has fallen off the National team radar. Before the 2006 World Cup, Fonseca provided a dynamic element to the Mexican attack. His national team numbers speak for themselves with 43 appearances and 21 goals but has not suited up for El Tri in over two years. It will be interesting to see if the former Benefica foward will land himself on the Mexican National Team Radar.

Future US international defender, Edgar Castillo, offered great passing and overlapping runs for the Tigres but failed to mark Darwin Quintero on the first Santos goal. On several occasions, Castillo stopped several Quintero dribble penetrations by using his lateral quickness and speed to detain the speedy Colombian winger. If the New Mexico native can eliminate his mental lapses and improve his man-marking, his offensive skill and speed could provide a valuable asset to the USMNT and could provide Landon Donovan additional space with the added flank firepower.

What did you think of Edgar Castillo's performance? Will Coach Bradley call him on a regular basis? Will he played disciplined for the Stars and Stripes? Share your thoughts.

Soccer goals and soccer videos: Major League Soccer Week 16 was overshadowed by the start of the Gold Cup. Jeff Cunnigham and Wilman Conde stole the show providing the winning goals for their teams. Dax McCarty has stepped up his game this season, being compared to a young Brian Mulrooney of the Houston Dynamo. Enjoy the analysis. Do you agree with their reactions?

Soccer goals and soccer videos: Overshadowing Major League Soccer Week 16 with the Gold Cup, several teams suffered from omissions from their lineups. DC United dominated the 2008 MLS Champions, Columbus Crew, but only secured one point, proving that their teams boasts a deep roster. The Crew struggled with the absences of Chad Marshall and Robbie Rogers.

Jeff Cunningham returned to his hot-and-cold ways scoring two goals to promote the Save Coach' Hyndman's job foundation. Donations started pouring in after the speedy forward looked poised to score a hat trick or even four goals.

The Chicago Fire damned the Rapids offense and redirected to another reserve. Although playing in the oxygen-depleting altitude, the Fire tired out the Rapids who appeared more gassed than "Mickey Rourke as The Wrestler". The absence of Omar Cummings and Colin Clarke disrupted their offense while the Fire converted the necessary chances.

1

Houston Dynamo

9-3-4 Houston continues to persever despite Ching and Holden on interanational leave. Kamara could earn MLS most improved player if he continues his scoring ways.
2.  (2) Chivas USA 8-4-3 Up next Super Clasico. Will the Chivas USA find an offensive spark.
3.   4

Columbus Crew

5-3-8 Lucky to earn a point at home while DC United mounted attack after attack. Rogers and Marshall were missed more than expected.
4.    4 DC United 5-3-9 DC United should have won the game with their dominance in possession and shots on goal. This squad boasts one of the deepest teams in MLS.
5.  6 Chicago Fire 6-3-6 The Fire shocked the Rapids at home with a two goal lead. The altitude did not save the Rapids as they looked gassed and lifeless through much of the game.
6.  7

Seattle Sounders

6-3-7 The Sounders have found new life once again, and Fredy Montero has regained his form. When will the sexual allegations end in Seattle?
7.   (4)

Colorado Rapids

5-4-6 The Rapids attack looked toothless, and the omissions to Omar Cummings and Colin Clarke affected the team tremendously. The Rapids should earn at least one point playing in Dick Sporting Goods Park.
8.   8 Toronto FC 6-6-4 If Julian De Guzaman signs for the rest of the season, coupled with Ali Gerba's inclusion, TFC could challenge for a top Spot in the Eastern Conference and possibly land a trip to Seattle for the MLS Final.
9 KC Wizards 5-6-4 Things could get worse with Davy Arnaud and Jimmy Conrad at the Gold Cup. It's time to wheel and deal some of your younger players (Espinoza, Myers, Harrington or Leathers.
10. 10 New England Revolution 4-5-4 Yes, they did lose to the LA Galaxy, but they boast only 13 games played. Points remain on the board, but will the Revs make the necessary moves to compete in the East?
11

Real Salt Lake

5-6-5 Pulled out a tie against an injury stricken San Jose squad that should have won the game. RSL needs to make some deals in the near future. Will Beckerman's abscence continue to cripple their team?
12    LA Galaxy 4-3-9 Alecko Eskandarian proved his worth moving to the other side. Will Beckham and Donovan propel their team to the playoffs? If TFC sings Julian De Guzman, Carl Robinson will be made available and would help solidify the central midfield.
13.  13 FC Dallas 4-7-5 Jeff Cunningham experienced a revival after his two goal performance. In reality, he could have scored four goals. Will Cunningham find the chemistry with the FC Dallas hulk (Kenny Cooper)? McCarty and Richetti have exceeded expectations this season. FC Dallas must continue with its youth movement.
14.   14

San Jose Quakes

3-8-4 San Jose continues to claw its way to decent results. Their play could have secured the full three points. How good has Arturo Alvarez been since the FIFA rule change? I hope that you do well for the Dark horse of Concacaf, El Salvador.
15  15

New York Red Bulls

2-13-4 The NYRB executives were summoned to appear in Salsburg. Coach Osario is on his way out. Who will stop the bleeding?

In the latest soccer news: In the battle of Texas, the Houston Dynamo crush the laughable FC Dallas who possessed very well but conceded goals like New Zealand. Has the voting started for MVP? Now would be a good time to stop the polls since Guillermo Barros Schelotto proves that he is worthy of the award. The ederly Argentine has demonstrated that he deserves Beckham/Blanco money and should have been selected as an 2008 All Star (oh I'm sorry Juan Toja really deserved the selection).

Just when it appeared that Major League Soccer would experience new emergiing teams, MLS went retro and realized that DC United, Columbus, and Columbus boast the consistency to remain in the top echelon of the league. Let's take a look at the Soccer Addict News Power Rankings Week 13.

2 Houston Dynamo 8-2-3 Dominic Kinnear still does not receive the credit due for all his shrewd deals that he makes throughout the past seasons. His ability to evaluate and culminate talent has allowed the Dynamo remain competitive. I knew that Kei Kamara would  mature into a top forward, but acquiring Dominic Oduro and Cam Weaver would have been a dream situation for Dynamo fan. Pinch yourself it is for real.
2.  (1) Chivas USA 8-4-3 The last minute loss was devestating but did your team really deserve to win the game? Chivas USA has found a tough run of form. Perhaps, the return of a rejuevinated Kljestan and Bornstein will steer Chivas USA in a return to good form.
 3.    (6) DC United 5-2-7 Winning on two penalty kicks does not inspire confidence for Coach Soehn. However, handing the Chicago Fire their third consecutive defeat gives hope to the resurging United. Rodney Wallace demonstrated his versatility once again playing as a defensive midfielder.
4.   5 Columbus Crew 4-2-7 The Crew boast a deep squad that they were able to win a come-from-behind victory against Chivas USA and trade Pat Noonan to the Rapids for a first rounder and some MLS funny-money. If the Crew continue their performance, the could propel themselves to the top of the Eastern Conference and the top two of the Power Rankings.
5.   (4) Colorado Rapids 4-2-5 A break was just what the doctor ordered with Mastroeni recovering from international duty and Conor Casey at the Confederations Cup. Coach Smith bolstered his roster with Pat Noonan who will offer the creativty that has plagued Colorado during stretches of games. The Rapids could be a darkhorse in the Western Conference.
 6.  3  Chicago Fire 5-3-6   Blessed with an extremely talented team, it appears that Dennis Hamlet underachieves as a manager falling to second in the East despite boasting a superior side. What would a Coach Kinnear or a Preki do with this type of talent at their disposal? Busch received too many accolades last season and the defense has been in shambles for weeks.
 7.  (7)  Seattle Sounders  5-3-5  The Sounders broke the curse of bad play, but unfortunately it was against a poor San Jose side. Once Osvaldo Alonso returns from injury and to good form, the Sounders should find success in the Western Conference. Zakuani wants some love for his rookie season.
8.     Toronto FC  5-5-4  Bolstering a talent-worthy midfield and goalkeeper, one wonders how TFC meddles at mediocrity. Oh yea, their defense resembles the same swiss cheese unit from last year, and their forwards can't finish except for Dichio. Bring in more reinforcements.
10  KC Wizards 5-5-4  They dismantled the Revs 3-1, but their team does not warrant a playoff spot. Claudio Lopez earns back some of his salary after performing poorly last year. He still claims the pending DP Bust Title  until proven otherwise. The KC defense still appears shakier than a fat lady on a treadmill.
 10. 8  New England Revolution  4-4-4  Without Twellman, the Revs created little fear for the KC Wizards. The game finished before it started. New England must make some player acquisitions or trades to make a run at the playoffs. Could Twellman be forced to retire prematurely.
12  Real Salt Lake   4-6-3  RSL dismantled the Galaxy defense but were fortunate that the Galaxy's scoring opportunities just missed. The outcome could have transpired differently. The Galaxy bubble finally burst, and RSL boast more defeats than victories. Could Movsysian return to 2008 form?
13    11  LA Galaxy  2-2-9  The record says it all 2-2-9. The talent pool suggests that most mid level USL players could make the roster. How can you lose at home to the one of the worst road teams in MLS that haven't won on the road this year? LA Galaxy!
13.   14  San Jose Earthquakes  2-8-3  San Jose played an admirable game against a water-downed Sounder's side. San Jose jumps ahead of FC Dallas due to the beatdown that the Dynmo gave to the Hoops. You're bad: they are bad, and the NYRB make you look good.
 14.  13  FC Dalllas  2-7-4  How can you play a tidy possession game and lose 3-1? The FC Dallas proved that anything is possible acting as gracious hosts but weak opponents. Actually there are three teams vying for the second best Texas team; Austin Aztecs, FC Dallas, and Laredo Heat. Hyndman's seat warms up.
15  15  NY Red Bulls 2-10-3   Keep Mac Kandji, JPA, Goldthwaite, Hall, and Stammler. Use the rest of the team as trade bait. The season only draws longer for the unfortuante Red Bull Fan.

In the latest soccer news: Chivas USA continues their dominance on the Power Rankings holding steady at number one. However, the Houston Dynamo defeated the Chicago Fire 1-0 and look poised to challenge the goats for the crown in Major League Soccer. Despite playing with a man disadvantage, the Columbus Crew defeated the Kansas City Wizards due to a brilliant two-goal performance from reigning MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto.

Colorado Rapids travelled to Rio Tinto Stadium to face the offensively-challenged Real Salt Lake who boasted a one goal and man advantage. A last minute heart-stopping strike by Omar Cummings earned the Colorado Rapids the point despite an Terry Cooke's injury and Mastroeni and Casey absent due to international duty. Without further Adu, Soccer Addict News presents MLS Power Rankings Week 12. Enjoy!!!!

 1.  (1) Chivas USA 8-2-3 No Kljestan and Bornstein, No problem! Eduardo Lillingston seems to be in the right place at the right time. Michael Lahoud stepped up as a starter and as Jesse Marsch's replacement. When will we see the Chivas USA explode offensively?
 2.  (4) Houston Dynamo 6-2-3   If defeating the most talented team in MLS wasn't enough, Coach Kinnear pulled some more strings bringing in Cam Weaver for Chris Wondolowski. After stealing Kei Kamara from them last season, why would San Jose make another deal with the Dynamo? Kei Kamara could be one of the most underrated forwards in MLS.
 3.  2  Chicago Fire  5-2-6  It is understandable that the Fire would struggle with Segares, Blanco and Soumare absent due to international duty. Is Dennis Hamlet maximizing the most of his players? Two consecutive losses do not bode well for their confidence. Are the fire underperforming for their talent?
 4.   (4)  Colorado Rapids  4-2-5  Despite missing Casey and Mastroeni to international duty, the Rapids earned a point against RSl who had a man advantage, but Omar Cummings acute angel strike suggests that he warrants the title of a bona fide MLS striker. Coach Smith proves that his tactics and coaching has issued a new era.
 5.   (9  Columbus Crew  3-2-7  After neutralizing the Wizards in Community Ball Park, Schelotto earned a break-out perfomance scoring two goals and ranking at the top of goals with eight. Once Rogers, Gaven, and Ekpo decide to carry their midfield weight, the Crew will provide an greater dynamic attack. Consider that Brian Carrol, Will Hesmer, and Frankie Hejduk will return from injury suggests a recipe for a repeat. Can they continue their eight game undefeated streak?
 6.    (5)  DC United  4-2-7  DC United defeated the horrid NYRB 2-0 on Thursday. This season's turn around proves that a change in a philosopy and a good draft can change the season. Could Santino Quaranta and Chris Pontius receive a call up for the Gold Cup?
 7.  (3)  Seattle Sounders  4-3-5 The Sounders hit the wall several weeks ago, and every expansion franchise suffers throughout the season. Could Fredy Montero be overrated after his excellent start? Freddie Ljungberg is a joy to watch. and Jacqua has shown that great flair and skill for a target forward.
  8. 11  New England Revolution  4-3-4  Taylor Twellman's presence has lifted the Revs and allowed them to establish their strong spine. This team lacks the depth of form Revs teams. Could Nicol make his move in the summer transfer period?
  9.   4  Toronto FC  4-5-4  With several key international players returning and recent trades to acquire Ali Gerba and Nick Garcia, TFC will curry the roster for the remainder of the season. Dichio needs to remain in the starting Xl.
 10.  (8)  KC Wizards  4-5-4  Losing to the Crew 2-0 with a man advantage suggests that Curt Onalfo must deal some of his players for a solid forward. It appears that their hot streak was an aberration. With a 2-2-2 home record, KC has underachieved all season. What happened to Davy Arnaud's long distance strikes?
11    13 LA Galaxy   2-1-9  Yes, the LA Galaxy have only lost one game, but they have only managed two victories. Keeper Ricketts has earned the team MVP awards up to this point. With Beckham and Donovan returning, could LA make a playoff run?
12   RSL  3-6-3  RSL finally scored goal from a Yura Movsisyan strike that caught the keeper off guard. Fabian Espindola provide good dribble penetration, but the Rapids defense was solid all night. Coach Kreis continues to experience sleepless nights as RSL sputters offensively. FC Dallas is knocking at the door wanting to move up the MLS ladder.
 13.  14  FC Dallas 2-6-4  FC Dallas appeared to be in the driver seat facing San Jose but conceded goals in normal Hoops fashion. Kenny Cooper's late game goal offerd hope to a season that has been plagued with injuries, lack of discipline, and poor offensive form. Can the Hoops make a run? Probably not, but their youth movement has paid dividends in Brek Shea and Anthony Wallace.
 14.   15  San Jose Earthquakes  2-7-3  Arturo Alvarez continues to show his precision striking. The quakes traded away Cam Weaver for Chris Wondolowski. Nick Garcia moves to TFC for draft picks. This season's performance did not warrant his hefty salary. If this was any other league, they would be relegated already.
 15.  13  NY Red Bulls  2-9-3  Nine losses in 14 games means that Coach Osario will be looking for a new job. What happened to the team with so much promise? The only reason I watch the NYRB is to watch Kandji and Juan Pablo Angel.

The Revs, Galaxy, TFC and the Wizards could have all been placed in any of the 8-11th positions. Out of those teams, New England and TFC  offer the most dynamic teams and offer decent depth. After the 7th position, the teams weaken considerably.

Do you agree with the rankings? Will Dynamo seize the number one spot? Who will win the golden boot?
